What does the average British expat think of Tommy?

My first thought was "excellent movie and soundtrack". Maybe I'm showing my age!

My second thought was "Tommy who?" :whistling:

I was exactly the same. I was thinking Pinball Wizard, rock operas, and all that. Then I thought, wait, must be something else, maybe even something more important, but then turns out to be another pathetic cult figure. Just another Jim Jones type trying to get people to drink the koolaid. Hey let's have a thread next about the wonders of Margarine Toilet Grime and QAnon.

I label many of them as disenfranchised vandals blaming a system for their own problems and personal shortcomings. Now you can deface a building just for fun, get lots of attention, say that it was in the name of some newfangled dystopian cause and be given a pass, even praised by some others.

Blocking roads, destroying art, defacing public property and other things that people hold in high regards, is all just a pathetic excuse for harming the lives of other innocent citizens who aren't to blame for the other person's problems.

I am not a Brit but have read a lot in the news about Tommy Robinson. First heard about him at the Oxford Union channel, interesting character.

As with Trump, he's a manifestation of the anger growing in White Western society. Blaming him - a symptom - instead of tackling the real illness, is missing the point. There are certainly big questions to be asked about him, his true name etc. But I tend to think a lot of those charges he's been hit with are trumped up by the authorities (including the UK Police) who have an undeniable Woke agenda.

Regarding his 'bona fides' - he's been attacked and threatened by Islamists in his home. They 'know where he lives', and it's an ordinary working class area. Would you have the guts to stand up and speak out when your home might come under attack as a result? The Islamists hate him and have it in for him. I'm surprised he hasn't been murdered already by them.

By the way, regarding the accusations of anti black/brown racism - he has had loads of support from the Sikh community in the UK. The Sikhs have fought Islam for centuries and British Sikhs are still on the frontline against Islamic domination, same as Mr.Robinson.

Tommy was calling out all the muslim grooming gangs in the UK when local authorities, councils, and the Police, were ignoring them for fear of offending the muslim communities from which they came. He gets my full respect for that, but unfortunately we have fanboys of Islam, and other wokesters on this forum, that will despise and deride him for his courage in highlighting those vile and depraved muslim gangs, which nobody else in the UK was willing to do.

Just a violent ultra right-wing, highly convicted felon. "Wants his country back" means nothing.

A few highlights.

"Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon (born Stephen Christopher Yaxley, 27 November 1982), better known as Tommy Robinson, is a British anti-Islam campaigner, convicted criminal, and one of the UK’s most prominent far-right activists. He was a political advisor to former UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Gerard Batten.

Robinson has been active in far-right politics for many years. He was a member of the British National Party (BNP), a neo-fascist and white nationalist political party, from 2004 to 2005. For a short time in 2012, he was joint vice-chairman of the far-right British Freedom Party (BFP). He co-founded the far-right English Defence League (EDL) in 2009 and led it until 8 October 2013. In 2015, he became involved with the development of Pegida UK, a now-defunct British chapter of the German far-right Pegida. From 2017 to 2018, he wrote and appeared in videos on the Canadian far-right website Rebel News.

Robinson has been convicted for multiple crimes involving violence, stalking, financial and immigration fraud, drug possession, public order offences, and contempt of court. He has served at least four separate prison terms: for assault in 2005, for using false travel documents to enter the United States in 2012, for mortgage fraud in 2014, and 13 months in 2018 for contempt of court after publishing a Facebook Live video of defendants entering a law court (contravening a court order that disallows reporting on such trials while proceedings are ongoing). In August 2018, due to procedural errors, he was released on bail pending a new hearing. In July 2019, he was again found guilty of contempt of court at the retrial and was committed at the Old Bailey to nine months in prison․ Before his sentencing, he appeared on the American far-right website InfoWars to appeal for political asylum in the U.S. He was released from prison on 13 September 2019 after nine weeks.

In July 2021, Robinson was found to have libelled a 15-year-old refugee at a school in Huddersfield and was ordered to pay £100,000 plus legal costs, although he had filed for bankruptcy in March 2021. In October 2021, he was made subject to a five-year stalking order for harassing journalist Lizzie Dearden and her partner.

"....but lost his job when he was convicted of assaulting an off-duty police officer in a drunken argument. He served a 12-month prison sentence."

"Robinson has appeared masked at protests. Although Robinson repeatedly insisted from the early days of the organisation that the EDL was "against the rise of radical Islam" and that its members "aren't against Islam", its rank and file were noted for including football hooligans and members who described themselves as anti-Muslim."

"Robinson was convicted in 2011 of using "threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour" during a fight between supporters of Luton Town and Newport County in Luton the previous year. Robinson reportedly led the group of Luton fans, and played an integral part in starting a 100-man brawl, during which he chanted "EDL till I die". He was sentenced to a 12-month community rehabilitation order with 150 hours' unpaid work and a three-year ban from attending football matches."

"On 29 September 2011, Robinson was convicted of common assault after headbutting a fellow EDL member at a rally in Blackburn in April that year.[1][18] He was sentenced to 12 weeks' imprisonment, suspended for 12 months."

Sounds like a real stand up geezer. Probably a Trump fan and vice versa. No shortage of these wastes of humanity around these days:

Tommy Robinson, born Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is a controversial far-right activist in the UK known for founding the English Defence League (EDL), an organization often criticized for promoting Islamophobia and inciting violence. His criminal record includes convictions for fraud, assault, and contempt of court, the latter of which resulted in multiple prison sentences. Robinson's rhetoric and actions have been widely condemned for fostering division and hatred, leading to his social media bans and legal troubles. His activities and statements have drawn criticism from various quarters, including human rights organizations and political figures, for contributing to societal tensions and promoting extremist views.

He was the first or one of the first to highlight the grooming gangs, you know Pakistani men were grooming young white girls around 13 (not Pakistani girls), it was widespread but being ignored because of wokeness and fear of being called racist. I've summed it up perfectly 👍

Oh please. Yaxley-Lennon doesn't give a stuff about grooming or paedophilia as long as it is white people who are doing it. His good friend and senior EDL colleague and founder member  Richard Price was convicted of paedophilia related charges for making child porn, and possession of cocaine and crack cocaine. Yaxley-Lennon not only refused to condemn him, but publicly defended him, even leading an EDL campaign to have him released! Released from detention because of child porn!

Then there was Leigh Mcmillan, another senior EDL leader under Yaxley-Lennon (and friend) who was convicted of abusing a 10 year old girl more than 100 times. In fact the EDL had a disproportionately high percentage of members who had been convicted for child sexual offences. Quite an organisation he led! Lots of others inside convicted of child sexual abuse.

Oh but the Muslim grooming gang! Yeah! Brown paedos are a thing! He cared so much about them that he nearly caused their trial to collapse with his theatrics that could have seen them potentially freed! His actions on that occasion were extremely reckless and put the whole trial at risk. He knew that. He didn't care as it is only about him and how much money he can get his legion of feckless followers to donate. If there was any single part of him that wanted to make sure they were convicted he wouldn't have done what he did. But the views and clicks and extra donations he got made it worth it.

And he didn't have any part in getting the gang caught as he only got involved when the police had done their work as he saw a bandwagon that needed jumping on.

He's a paedophile defender at worst (well, he defended a convicted paedopjile and campaigned for his release). A paedophile ignorer at best.

He didn't "expose them". He came in after most of the investigation was done - he saw a bandwagon and he jumped on it. And he almost caused their trial to collapse which could have seen them freed.

See my post above about his defence of convicted paedophiles within his own orgnaisation.

Or maybe you could read the thread properly.  I did quote the source in the third post.  Clearly some people didn't read it so I posted it in a abbreviated form with highlighted text to show what I was referring to. Hence me saying " A few highlights" and putting text in inverted commas. I'm quite happy to cut and paste factual information that I've linked to.
