Thailand is a completely different country from what it was when many of us moved here. I arrived around 2006 when the country was still feeling the effects of the Asian financial crisis. The people w

I am working in Thailand.   Apart from that, life in my home country was and is boring and frustrating. Lots of old people, and not even a glimmer of hope that the future will be better.

Not sure why you keep telling us this and when someone responds to you the way you don't like, you report it to the Mods.

Is it just because financial? Why can't you live in your home country? If you are a pensioner don't forget your home country pays, Thailand just takes. Anywhere you go as a farang you pay more than a Thai. Yes, I lived in Thailand for years. How would you live in Thailand without assistance of your home country? I am not talking about foreigners working in Thailand. So, every day I read on here how beautiful Thailand is, but you cannot live on temples (or sex if you young enough.) Thailand does not pay anything for you. No, I am not Bob. So back to the Question why you want to live away from your home country?

The beaches

Why Thailand?

- Women. You get laid as sure as in Hawaii;

- Good cheap street food

- Sun shines near every day

- Smiling people, even if some are fake still better than miserable looking in other places

- Great place to feel normal among nuts

- Did I mention women?

- Etc etc etc

If I could afford to live in Thailand:

Yes- it's way cheaper than NZ. Don't have to have a car. Can afford a far better life style on the same money.

Because Thailand is far more interesting and enjoyable, with way more opportunities for travel- bus and train are very cheap, and hotels are affordable.

I could never live on a beach in NZ like I can in LOS.

Thailand is worth it.

That lasts a few months then old Trevor wants to go back to his ex missus in England

I think it's pretty rare that a guy wants to leave Thailand and go back to his ex in the West.  Generally guys move onto another Thai girl, or if they have to leave, it's not because they want to.

No Maga lunatics

No mass shootings

No GOP

No Trump

I'm a little curious as to how you divorce yourself from all of the bad things that happen to people in Thailand, if something like Donald Trump or the GOP existing is a reason to not want to live in the US?

Obviously, a lot of very bad things happen in Thailand, and a lot of people get treated very badly.  The roads are some of the most dangerous in the world, the education is bad, many people live in poverty, we constantly seem to read about children being abused, raped or killed, with seemingly little happening to the perpetrators.  Does that not bother you?

It seems as though, if you were one to be bothered by political or social injustice, Thailand might not be that attractive as a home.

Is it simply a case of: you hate Trump, therefore his existence bothers you, so you don't want to be there, but the bad things that happen in Thailand happen to other people, therefore they aren't enough to put you off?

Bad things in every country. Thailand is better in the things I like than home country, but I can't get pension there so unable to live there.

Try thinking about why people choose Thailand and not the bad things that exist everywhere.

Australian Beaches

Plenty beaches as good as that in LOS, and I can live on one if I want

After seeing in my country that for two years everyone was put in guarded residence same dictature and that here in Thailand despite all its government defects it has remained a land of freedom, the question does not even arise if you then add that there is winter and endless rainy seasons, the question of why is absolutely stupid.
