The only thing that surprised me in the article was the part about the hospital being prepared for the possibility of an emergency because of the festivities. Proactively engaged! Now that, is surprising.

Not everyone in the country fits the average IQ of 88, some excel, most don't.

Knowing how little Thai's care for safety, I wouldn't be within a mile of them firing these things off.

Thais and explosives, what could possibly go wrong

Hope none of the injuries were serious. The safety standards here are seriously lacking and enforcement of any standards is very, very third world.

This will seriously affect the Thai Space Program, and probably delay their first moon landing.:coffee1:

Authorities have begun an investigation into the cause of the malfunction to prevent such incidents in the future.

An accident possible to limit or avoid. The authorities should not look at the malfunction, as it is fully possible for a rocket the malfunction. That happens everywhere in the world. What they must look at is licenses, educated people taking care of the event and most of all security measures regarding storage of all other firework and the safety distance for the onlookers.

If I remember correctly,  wasn't there an accident last year at this same event with a rocket malfunction or similar ....  I remember reading this some time ago ..

Seems every year there is some incident with these rockets.....:coffee1:

i'm sure they all enjoyed the event again with all the ambulances wailing around and they feel lucky not to have been hit by a rocket  :vampire:

Notice event promoters will do everything to make sure future event safe but no mention about caring ot taking care of the injure expenses.

Meh 30b each. .........who are the promotors anyhow ?

The hospital staff, already expecting an influx of patients due to the large crowd at the festival, was prepared to handle the emergency.

Says it all don't it. :coffee1:

Hamas has blamed these civilian casualties on the Israeli Army's use of IBMs and announces new targeting jammers have spared lives in Gaza.

In related news pro palestinian students are organizing a protest tour to Phuket and Koh Phangan to coincide with the July full moon parry, depending of Soros funding.

The local government, along with festival organizers,

Name and Shame these so called organizers  :post-4641-1156693976: The local government should not allow these rockets, but I guess the back handers would stop. ......... :coffee1:

bringing luck to the community.

well that didn't work

Hard to know... Good luck can come in funny ways. It might have taken out some ne'er-do-wells! 😅

In reality, sad for those bystanders who may be suffering for a while to come...

what is the fuel of the rockets?  fertilizer ?

Fueled by big balls and a lot of booze.

Say what you want, it looks like a lot of fun and I'd hate to see it ruined for millions, like so many nanny state escapees posting here would have it.

Spectators aren't compelled to show up, nor are they forced to stand so close. (Or forced to get so drunk, either).

Like that's exclusive to rocket festivals.

What do you propose, banning all gatherings where people may not get along with each other?

Looked like a smart plan to hang the rocket elevated while having an audience under it.......... Some next level geniuses.

Every hour to the hour - in this case rather every year to the year. Not a year passed without a blue water pipe going up in splitters all over Isan - stupidity prevails well into the 21st century.

Resisting the urge to make the usual, obvious snide remarks, how bloody awful.

but left when some idiots started shooting at each other.
Traffic was a mess and unless things changed this year, a response without delay would have been impossible.

But this is a regular occurrence at many festivals ....   once that lao khao starts to hit they all go loopy.

Looks like a scene from Gaza.  There are horrible incidents with these dangerous toys every year.  High time they were banned along with the gun powder or whatever the propellant they use.

If you keep the minimum safety standards, this could not happen

Even if a mandatory safety radius of (say) 500 metres was set and maintained, in a case like this were a rocket at launch bursts and the top section flies off horizontally it can fly a significant distance at low level and cause damage and injury.

Anyone with even a shred of common sense would stay clear of events like this.  Safety is a concept (much like maintenance) that most people in Thailand have heard about but choose to ignore.
