snoop1130 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Thai law enforcement officers have arrested a gang in Samut Sakhon, who were extorting money from kratom juice sellers and fuel smugglers by pretending to be police. The gang members were caught today during a raid which uncovered their fraudulent activities. According to police, on May 29, this group had visited a kratom juice shop in Mueang Samut Sakhon. Dressed in Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) vests and arriving on motorcycles, they convinced the shopkeeper that they were actual police officers. They demanded 28,000 baht from the vendor to avoid any legal trouble and insisted they pay additional 3,000 baht monthly for the same reason. But these extortionists were not only targeting kratom juice sellers. The gang exploited the same trick of impersonation to extort money from people smuggling fuel in Samut Sakhon. The probe into this case has found that more than 11 individuals, including two active police officers and nine civilians, were part of this illicit operation. During the raid, authorities discovered counterfeit police badges, CIB vests, and other evidence that implicated the suspects in the crimes. These suspects were arrested and are now going through further legal procedures, as reported by Pattaya News. The Thai authorities' action against this gang of extortionists is a part of an ongoing nationwide effort to eliminate corruption and misconduct, which erode the public's trust in law enforcement. A comprehensive investigation is now underway to identify the level of involvement of these police officers and to uncover any possible links within the police force. Gottfrid Posted June 17 Posted June 17 It´s good that we see more arrests and work from the police on this matter. Starting to be very popular to impersonate authority figures to be successful in criminal activities. However, these guys will bite the dust for a while.

It has been around since Noah was a lad. It is just that before social media, people just paid up. Now, people are more aware - which is probably the positive thing about social media.
rocketboy2 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Quote pretending to be police Thought this was the norm. Can anyone tell the diferance.

RobU Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Seems like they were targeting illegal or dubious operators with the expectation that they will not be reported to the police. What they didn't consider was if one of the illegal operators was caught by honest police, the illegal operator would spill the beans by claiming he/she had paid their protection money.
TheFishman1 Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Yeah, all the shop owners and vendors are so used to paying off the cops that when some fake cops come in they just assume they’re real cops and pay them corruption top from bottom it’s Yes corruption TIT
Ctkong Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Fake cops , real cops either way you pay so no trouble comes your way. Same as long time ago, you either pay the mafia or the triads . Someone once said crooked police are just gangsters with badges.
BusyB Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) What really "undermines law enforcement" is the fact that two of these scumbags are serving police officers. Edited June 18 by BusyB
