Popular Post webfact
Thailand has called for more inclusive peace talks on the Ukraine war, following a recent global summit held to address the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The summit, attended by over 80 countries and international organisations, was significant, although key players like Russia were notably absent. The collective communique from the summit reaffirmed robust support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Discussions focused on four principal areas: nuclear safety, food security, the exchange of prisoners, and navigation safety. The absence of Russia and other major stakeholders has, however, raised questions about the summit's ability to foster a comprehensive peace resolution. Thailand’s Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of an inclusive approach, emphasising that negotiations should involve all relevant parties to be effective. They cited adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and international law as essential for resolving the conflict and achieving global stability. Despite Russia's exclusion, the summit saw participation from several influential countries including the US, UK, France, Germany, and the EU. Yet, Thailand and other nations believe that any meaningful peace discussion must eventually involve Russia and other key stakeholders such as China, Central Asian, and African countries. Swiss hosts of the summit acknowledged the need for broader participation moving forward. Thailand specifically underlined the pressing issue of food security, urging efforts to revive the Black Sea Grain Initiative. This initiative is crucial for restoring global food supply chains disrupted by the conflict. Thailand’s stance was further highlighted by its voting record on six UN resolutions concerning the Russia-Ukraine war: four in favour, two abstentions. The nation continues to advocate for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a focus on humanitarian assistance for victims in all affected regions. In summary, Thailand’s call for inclusive peace talks aims to facilitate a balanced and sustainable resolution, reflecting the country’s commitment to diplomatic solutions and international cooperation. Popular Post sidneybear
Common sense. How can you have peace talks that don't include both warring sides, particularly the side that's got the upper hand on the battlefield? It's ludicrous, and shows the whole world how divorced from reality the western governments sponsoring this war have become. John Drake
And just in case you're wondering if the US Embassy had a statement or a comment or something, no, the ambassador is too busy with a cheese lunch. And California cheese at that. Were I from Wisconsin, I might be wondering what the hell . . . https://x.com/USAmbThailand/status/1803600952974516607 1

What a load of BS, so send the Ukraine some Humanitarian aid then if that's what you 'advocate', you don't need to attend any summits to do that, but of course you won't, it may upset your best buddy PUTIN.

Once this is over and Putin is defeated, there need to be some repercussions for siding with the invaders.

lordgrinz
I don't even understand what the endgame in Ukraine is, they aren't going to win, if anything this could eventually spark a World War (with a NUCLEAR POWER!). If the West had stayed out of politics in Ukraine back when it was under different rulers, this would never have happened. We shouldn't have been screwing around in Russia's backyard to begin with, anyone with half a brain would have known Putin would annex Crimea where he had an important military base to protect. This whole thing at this point is nothing more than a cash grab for the military industrial complex and politicians looking to grab their share of loot in the process. Meanwhile people are dying in this lost proxy war, and the cost to rebuild after it is all done will be worse yet. Popular Post Jingthing
In other words Ukraine should surrender stolen lands for a temporary ceasefire while Russia regroup for future waves and makes all of Ukraine a slave state like Belarus. Thanks but no thanks

And as long as Russia is still attacking and invading the Ukraine peace will not be achieved/ If Russia had not attacked the Ukraine in the first place, there would be no need for peace talks. Trump OTOH, would have simply ignored the Ukraine's request for assistance, and told Putin to carry on invading who he wants. 1

And how would it be possible if "neocons" were not calling the shots... Please do pray tell... Ukraine will never accept ceding any currently Russian occupied territory, and want to join NATO for protection. Putin will lose face big time if he would agree to that.
