Another Jail Sentence for Holocaust Denier “Nazi Grandma”

Ursula Haverbeck, infamously known as the "Nazi grandma," has been sentenced once again for denying the Holocaust. At the age of 95, she faces another 16-month prison term, handed down by a Hamburg court on Wednesday. Haverbeck, a repeat offender in this regard, has been jailed multiple times for her persistent denial of the Nazi genocide.

The court's decision took into account her previous convictions and her continued dissemination of Holocaust denial during the trial itself. Haverbeck repeated her denial of the Holocaust several times throughout the proceedings, prompting the judges to factor in her ongoing defiance and use of the trial as a platform for her views.

Supporters of Haverbeck were present in court, and their repeated heckling disrupted the proceedings. Haverbeck was once the head of a far-right training center, which was shut down in 2008 for spreading Nazi propaganda. Over the years, she has been sentenced to jail on several occasions for her denial of the Nazi genocide. One of her most notorious declarations was made on television, where she claimed, "the Holocaust is the biggest and most sustained lie in history."

This latest sentence comes after Haverbeck lost an appeal over a conviction related to comments she allegedly made in 2015 during the trial of Oskar Groening, a former Auschwitz guard. During that trial, she claimed that Auschwitz was merely a labor camp and that no mass murder occurred there. Her remarks, according to prosecutors, were a clear denial of the atrocities committed at Auschwitz, where approximately 1.1 million people, primarily European Jews, were murdered.

The proceedings against Haverbeck were delayed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic and her health issues. This sentence also considers a previous conviction by a Berlin court in 2022 for statements she made in another interview and at an event.

It remains uncertain whether Haverbeck will actually serve her sentence in prison. German law strictly prohibits the denial of the genocide committed by Adolf Hitler's regime. Holocaust denial and other forms of incitement to hatred can lead to up to five years in prison, and the use of Nazi symbols, such as swastikas, is also banned.

Haverbeck's case highlights Germany's ongoing struggle with Holocaust denial and the legal measures in place to combat it. Despite her advanced age, the courts have continued to hold her accountable for her persistent spread of falsehoods and hatred.

What next? Locking up people who deny the moon landings happened? Locking up men who put on a dress and deny they are a man? Locking up people who deny the existence of earth prior to 4000 BC when god created it?

Sooo, no free speech in Germany then. Why do they feel so threatened by one old woman that they lock her up for saying something they don't agree with? I have my suspicions but best not to say them on here lest I get banged up for it.

Its not a matter of free speech, Germany has laws about holocaust denial and this old lady being German knows that full well, she is either in complete denile of the law or seeking attention, because no one of that age can possibley deny it happened.

So no free speech then. There is no reason to ban dissension on historical events unless one has some ulterior motive. Only speech likely to cause physical harm should be proscribed.

Will they lock people up for saying israel is committing war crimes now?

Let the old cow have her opinion and die with it, no need to jail someone this old and recalcitrant.

I am surprised she has not seen any archive film of the camps when they were liberated, or interviews with camp inmates. I suppose she thinks they are all fake.

So many loonies these days wont accept first hand evidence or film/video.

I don't condone what she advocates on such a sensitive issue but, I mean. at 94 it's probably the only excitement she'll get.

She's a full fledged Nazi. Never left her. Some of her vile history is well documented if one wants to look. Hope they jail her for good.

You agree with her opinion that the Holocaust didn't happen , add that to your opinion about Jews in Israel .

As you are single, have you thought about asking her out on a date when she gets out ?

Sorry, censorship is never acceptable.   Might not believe in what you say, but believe in your right to state, no matter how wrong it is.

If they can call something 'safe & effective' that is neither, and actually kills people, she can believe or not believe, say and think, anything she wants.

Hate speech is never acceptable. Or are you also ok with calling for murder contracts online or bragging about your terrorist exploits and atrocities. Do you really want free speech?

I wouldn't call that hate speech, just a difference of opinion.

Why I wouldn't ever go to Germany or probably the EU or UK.   Actually more screwed up (PC/less freedoms) that the USA.   Part of why I left the USA.

Apples & oranges   Both are illegal ... "inciting a riot / violence"   That's wee bit different than stating you don't believe something is true.

And that latter never happened, or he would have been arrested for it.

You can still deny the Holocaust if you want though

It's the law and the same law exists in most countries

So, you would never visit Europe for the reason that you cannot deny that the Holocaust happened in Germany

Censorship is fascism. It’s fascinating to witness how things do a 180 flip.

If I'm not mistaken, simply displaying a swastika is illegal.   That's nuts, so yes, I like my freedom of expression, and would avoid the EU & UK.

Yep ... sad tyranny exists in so many places.  When free thinking is illegal, you've got problems.

Ignorance, there is no thing as free speech and the laws apply worldwide. If you are ok with murder, rape and terror how about pedophilia? Think a little man

So you also avoid going to Thailand as well, because free speech is even more restricted in Thailand than it is in Europe

I knew that before coming here, and I'm a guess, and do realize it's a 3rd world country.   Aside from less majeste, I think I can say and express any opinion I like.    My opinions mean nothing here, and I'm not a citizen, so I really don't care what goes on.

Their country, do as they please.   I came here to retire, not change anything.  Mai Pen Rai
