Tips needed for Malaysia holiday

Recommended Posts

I know these sub-forums are pretty dead but still hoping someone has some advice for best way to spend 3 weeks.

I'm going to Kuala Lumpur on 10th July and I've been told "Bukit Bintang" is the place to stay and Holiday Inn was reccomended as a good hotel close to the street full of Western style bars (don't know what it's called). I then thought go to Penang for a week.

Does anyone know of anywhere else to spend another week (I know nothing about Malaysia and Google is not a lot of help)

Appreciate any comments

Malacca and Ipoh's are both good for a few days, though in opposite directions from KL, the Cameron Highlands are worth a visit too. But it very much depends what your interests and expectations are.

Just looking for a place to relax for 3 weeks staying in a decent hotel and doing the touristy tours. Happy for nightlife to be close by to enjoy good food, cheap beers and possible bands? Love beaches so thought Penang would cover that as well as all the other things?

Penang & Cameron Highlands are both good places but a bit of a distance from KL, if you didn't want to travel far then certainly Malacca is nice, my wife and I had a week there a few years ago and enjoyed it.

Another suggestion: my wife and I are planning a stopover in KL for about 5 nights on route to Australia in December and if we do we're planning on staying in the Brickfields area, which is the Indian part of the city. We both like Indian food and we think staying in the Indian section will give us a more colorful, more interesting and exotic holiday.
