After heavy rains caused widespread flooding in Phuket, the region's Governor, Sophon Suwannarat, has spearheaded a significant cleanup in the Kamala area. The rains on June 30 brought traffic to a halt, caused flight delays, and flooded neighborhoods.

Several officials, including Phuket's Vice Governor Sattha Thongkham, and Police Major General Sinlert Sukhum, joined the Governor in Kamala. Updates on the flood situation were provided by Kathu District Chief Theeraphong Chuaychu, who mentioned Kamala was severely impacted with homes filled with garbage and mud. Despite this situation, Governor Sophon assured residents that things were improving.

Water pumps have been used to speed up the drainage process. Meanwhile, approximately 50 residents have been provided with food, survival equipment, and safety measures at Wat Thepkrasattri School. The governor also mentioned a return to normalcy for these individuals, with them expected to start cleaning their homes.

After flight diversions and flooding affected main access roads, Phuket Airport resumed normal operations. Efforts to mitigate damage are ongoing, and those most affected, including residents in Kamala, Kathu, and Thepkasattri, will receive extra assistance. Plans have been made to install water pumps in high-risk areas to lessen future flooding.

Reports show that 740 households or 1,468 people were directly impacted by the flash floods. This affected 41 villages and four communities across Kathu and Thalang districts. Though the situation has improved, low-lying areas are still experiencing floodwaters.

Further assistance and damage surveys are still being provided by various government organisations and agencies. Local residents have been advised to continue monitoring the situation, lifting their belongings to safer levels to prevent further damage.

Governor Sophon and other officials visited the flood victims at Wat Thepkrasattri School, distributing essential supplies like bedding, hygiene kits, clothing, and blankets. Furthermore, Vice Admiral Suchat Thammapitakwet ordered additional help from Royal Thai Navy to assist affected residents.

In Patong, Mayor Chalermsak Maneesri managed operations to clear debris from Pak Bang Canal to ease runoff to the sea. He also directed lifeguards to monitor Patong Beach and advise tourists against swimming in areas with strong waves and rip currents.
