Plus the fact that Bangkok is 'sinking', and sea levels are rising.

The conversion to marine taxis will be simple

And the money will come from ????????????

Easy- they'll just print it. Who cares about inflation and currency devaluation, right??

There's a number of other questions though:

1. Why?? Is there an actual need? this isn't anywhere near central Bangkok, is there enough actual traffic congestion to warrant such a project?

2. If there is traffic - why not just build it above ground? tunnels this long cost a lot to maintain even beyond the initial cost.

3. What envelopes were passed as part of the decision-making process?

4. Is the drilling going to be outsourced to Chinese companies? was that part of the decision process?

What HiSo lives in that area who wants less traffic zipping by his door?

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) announced plans to construct a 50 billion baht tunnel expressway

That money should be used in relocating the capital, that should reduce traffic.

Bangkok is sinking.

Ref today's AN link to the closure of a prominent Amata City factory, I had the following comment about infrastructure projects:

"It is such continuing Thai economic developments such as this factory closure that highlight the stupidity & military arrogance of using limited budgets to purchase Chinese submarines.

Any infrastructure development, even if wasteful, would serve Thai working people better than Chinese submarines."

Tomorrow’s meeting will finalise the construction format and gauge public support for EXAT’s proposal. Subsequently, EXAT will compile the feedback and present it to the Ministry of Transport and other relevant agencies for further consideration.

In short, finding out where the funds should come from, which "relevant" pockets have to be lined, and which tax could be increased, or introduced.

There are a lot of "big" plans and hubs in the pipe.

You can never make enough roads for cars.  Make a new road and cars will fill it. If nature abhors a vacuum cars hate empty roads more.

What is needed is more and better public transport. People often take their cars because public transport does not effectively cover their journey.

You are bang on the dosh there Denim.

But ponder this. When BKK become Thailand's first '15 minute city', where will all the vehicles go? Get into the scrap business I say. Easy money.

From the usual sources. Tunneling World quotes:

"Mr. Surachet also added that EXAT is in good financial health and is contemplating investing in the project itself, and continued that the agency may consider allocating bonds to increase money to finance the construction."

Agree. Even Sukhumvit is becoming a nightmare again and many of the vehicles have only 1 person driving.
