Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
The argument is often used that this or that must not be true, because the expat community hasn't heard anything about it. I wondered for a moment how valid that is because it seems not to make much sense. I know from the many reports that there are plenty of Western expats who avoid other expats like the plague, I personally only know two or three and the rest of our friends are either Thai or other nationalities. I suppose if I hung out in the bar every day I might know more Western expats but there again, the news that flows from those sources can't be the most reliable. The Western newspapers here contain unreliable news so that leaves the small percentage of Western expats who populate these pages. The problem, I think, is that there probably isn't sufficient communications between Thais and Western expats at a senior level that promotes flows of useful information. Posters like Dogmatix are, in my twenty years in the forum, a rare find here and are the exception. I think this is perhaps a symptom of us overstating our own importance in Thailand yet again, the fact is that lots of things happen that we don't know about or understand. Which is why it doesn't seem reasonable to say that just because we don't know about something, means it is not true. -

ZONTES 350
Zontes even now has an ADV model, with on paper spec superior to Forza and ADV 350, but we need a lot more reports and feedbacks to see if it's as good in real life. Chinese bikes are actually survive the first year or two with no major issues, it's after that they might fail and cause problem. Although might lose a nut or bolt here or there, but nothing major early on... If there are dealers around to bring their spare parts, it will probably be cheap to maintain and repair, but I don't see many dealers...! Yet. -

Best thing that happened to the cabs in Pattaya As an X cabby from Perth it annoyed me how they would refuse to use the meter and just make up prices, quite often 300 or 400 thb to go a km. So i avoided them like the plague. -

Cha-Am Beach Sees Rare ‘Fish Crowding’ Phenomenon as Locals Gather Seafood
On October 7, residents and tourists flocked to Cha-Am Beach in Phetchaburi Province to catch various sea creatures washed ashore due to a phenomenon known locally as "nuea bia," or “crowding water.” Armed with nets and baskets, they collected blackfin seabass, cuttlefish, shrimp, and blue crabs, which had surfaced and were stranded along the beach. This bounty offered locals and visitors a rare opportunity to gather fresh seafood for meals. The event attracted numerous people to the Cha-Am Beach viewpoint area, where the phenomenon was most visible. "Nuea bia" occurs when a large influx of freshwater flows into the sea along the coastline, causing oxygen levels in the seawater to drop. As a result, marine life, including seabass and other sea creatures, rises to the surface in search of oxygen. Witnesses reported that among the various sea creatures, the blackfin seabass was notably abundant. The influx of marine life provided a unique experience for visitors, who were eager to take advantage of the natural event. Authorities have noted that while “nuea bia” can be a temporary boon for locals, it can also indicate disruptions in the marine ecosystem. As locals continue to gather seafood, officials advise them to observe responsible harvesting practices to avoid overfishing and to protect the area’s biodiversity.
