I'd say the detention centres are horrendous, food riddled with bugs etc. not fit for humans......good deterrent.

In Australia we give them wonderful accommodation, new housing, delicious meals.

What are joke Australia is... 😂

I presume you are a country shopper as well.

Only wrong is Australia for not complying with its international obligations.

The UK were ready to do the same . Thankfully the Conservative Government were voted out by a substantial majority before they put the UK in the same sewer as Australia.

nice info. just curious though, how many asylum seekers are granted permanent residency, citizenship and even social security benefits? 81 241 refugees pales in comparison to the total the uk takes in year on end

What nonsense, the numbers are broadly similar..  The UK took in 84,425 last year.

Thailand has alot of immigrants from Myanmar. You see them on construction sites working for pittance.

- Thailand didn't invade half the world.

- Thailand didn't then want the citizens of those countries it invaded to help them during two world wars.

- Thailand then did not ask peoples of the 'commonwealth' (past countries it had invaded and looted) to then help them rebuild the country after the devastation of the second world war, meaning when would then have long standing family links to those countries.

Get a grip racists.

really???

are they all on the take via state handouts as well?

and this topic is specifically about asylum seekers, not well healed immigrants/expats.

bob.

The case is that the laws regarding Asylum seekers are not same favorable in Thailand. Instead they use a much bigger migrant worker system to replace the need to provide living quarters to asylum seekers. It´s also a very complicated process to even get into any kind of asylum program in Thailand, as that mostly demands recommendations and additional help from UN. Besides that, they only have migrant worker system or illegal entry and deportation. At least, that´s what it looks like. 🙂

Let's use a quick scenario, shall we..

If Thailand was all of a sudden swamped by people coming over in boats - do you think they would welcome them in or do you think they would let them drown at sea?

I'm going with the latter.

Yes, I just think they would turn them away. As any other country should do too.

The UK never invaded Pakistan but we have couple of million of the buggers in the UK trying to turn it into the dump they ran away from. They just smashed up a pub in Birmingham, nothing but trouble, keeps them away from the schoolgirls though.

Genuine question, but have you studied history?

The UK ruled over what is now Pakistan for nearly 200 years, and only left after World War 2. It was known back then as India.

These are the types of ignorant people in Thailand, no clue on history, or not having read up on it.

Thailand literally has a porous border with Myanamar in some areas. People coming in and out everyday without any checks.

Start with this:

  • "Thailand is not a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention and has no specific domestic legal framework for protection of urban refugees and asylum-seekers."

Continue with this:

  • "the Royal Thai Government does not have an asylum system for the protection of refugees. Anyone without a valid visa is at risk of detention. In Thailand, UNHCR is the only organisation responsible for receiving and processing asylum applications."

End with this:

  • Thailand HRC lost its accreditation UNHRC in 2014 in connection with the military coup government rewrite of Thailand's constitution that in part subjects THRC to government censorship.

Consequences: stateless or returned to further abuse or death to countries such as China, North Korea and Bangladesh.

Yeah right better having Mexicans crossing the border

Donald Trump’s big mistake with his plans to ‘build the wall’ is that it should be between Mexico and Guatemala and patrolled by both Mexican and US forces to keep out freeloaders/invaders from the ‘sh17hole nations’.

The issue is not or should not be that Mexican migration is the problem - the US and Mexico have a symbiotic relationship which needs to be worked on to improve Mexico towards US standards and not the other way round as the Democrats have done. Right now parts of Mexico are a far better place to live than any of the so called ‘sanctuary cities’ that the Democrats have systematically destroyed…

Bob, you should have googled what happens to asylum seekers coming to Thailand. Many are returned to their country to face jail or worse. Thailand rarely accepts people seeking asylum.

Quite right to!

I mean, the weather is warmer here than in the UK isn't it? why would anyone want to claim asylum in a country that rains 300 days a year...

does anyone know why Thailand is not currently full of Asylum Seekers seeking to relocate permanently in Thailand without any money in the bank?

thanks.

bob.

The social net is not good here or not existing. Much better in paradise EU, Germany in particular.

Probably because, unlike other countries such as Aus, the government does not provide you with accomodation, health care, money each week, lawyers , and a host of other goodies.

In Thailand you work or starve.
