Social Media Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate as she gears up for a November faceoff against former President Donald Trump. This decision, confirmed by two sources familiar with the matter, introduces a new dynamic to the 2024 presidential race. Walz, 60, emerged as a dark horse contender for the vice-presidential slot amid early speculation about other high-profile names, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. However, Walz's profile surged over the past week, particularly after a viral cable news interview where he criticized some Republicans as “weird,” a line of attack that national Democrats subsequently adopted. Walz's selection is seen as a strategic move, given his liberal credentials and the perception that he is a safer choice compared to other contenders who have faced criticism from various segments of the left. Shapiro, for instance, has been scrutinized for his response to pro-Palestinian protests following the Israel-Hamas conflict, while both he and Kelly have faced backlash from union leaders. Moreover, Walz brings geographical appeal, hailing from a Midwestern state that Trump has increasingly targeted. Although Biden won Minnesota by 7 points in 2020 and no Republican has secured a presidential victory there in over 50 years, Trump and his running mate JD Vance have intensified their campaign efforts in the state, aiming to flip it in the upcoming election. Walz’s liberal bona fides and his recent rise in prominence make him a compelling choice for Harris as she prepares to challenge Trump in what promises to be a highly contentious election. His ability to appeal to Midwestern voters and his alignment with national Democratic strategies position him as a key player in the Harris campaign's efforts to secure victory in November. I think the odds of Vance being Trump’s fall guy just went up. He needs to watch out for busses on the Rikers Island route. 1 1 1
susanlea Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Walz looks like a heart attack candidate. Weird choice as VP. VP should be younger than President or look likely to live 8 years. This guy doesn't look well. Looks older than Trump. 1 1

Tug Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I watched the rally with the camera constantly panning 360% to show that stadium absolutely packed to the gills strong positive vibe strong positive energy strong positive message at times funny as all get out ……bleat all ya like you would be foolish to underestimate this team! 1 1
Popular Post Eric Loh Posted August 7, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 7, 2024 Impressive first rally together in Philadephia. Excellent raucous crowd of 12,000 filled up to the rafters. What a witty critique of Trump when he spoke about violent crime that was up under Trump and that's not even counting the crimes he committed. Family values were evident with both spouse took to the stage to greet the crowd compare with the no-show Melania. So much for the classic GOP American values 3

Good on her, pick an old white man for the job, that'll show the GOP who's on top of the game. Not so good to attract the youth vote, or the black vote though. IMO that's Harris for you, just old Washington politics dressed in a younger skin. 1

That support may well vanish like frost in the sun. The bounce she got was from replacing the guy with cognitive problems, and it's still a long way till November. IMO she is the reason people may change their minds as she is IMO basically unlikeable. Just imagine if you will the King of Saudi meeting her. If she starts cackling he might think Biden should have tried to win. 1 1 2

Can't agree with you that she is unlikeable when her electability and favourability polls are trending up. If she meet the Saudi King, it will be a meeting between Heads of State in a formal setting with no personal financial expectation weighing on her to overlook Saudi Arabia human rights violations. 1 1
impulse Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Well, they do make a good team. Walz let Minneapolis burn for 3 or 4 days in the 2020 Summer of Love and mostly peaceful city burnings before calling in the Guard. Then Kamala raised bail money for the burners. https://www.minnpost.com/metro/2020/05/what-we-know-about-the-events-surrounding-george-floyds-death-and-its-aftermath-a-timeline/ The link is a good look at what "mostly peaceful" looked like. 1 1
