The Bhumjaithai party will back any candidate from the Pheu Thai party for the Prime Minister's position, as long as they do not support a change in Article 112 of the Penal Code, said Bhumjaithai's party leader, Anutin Charnvirakul on Thursday.

Anutin, who serves as both the Caretaker Interior Minister and deputy Prime Minister, led his party members to present their stand on the imminent Prime Minister's election in the Parliament. He was likely referring to Chaikasem Nitisiri, second on Pheu Thai's list of potential Prime Minister candidates, who previously declared his support for revising Article 112, also recognized as the oppressive lese majeste law.

The House of Representatives is set to select a new Prime Minister on Friday due to Srettha Thavisin's removal from the office on Wednesday by the Constitutional Court for breaching the code of ethics.

Anutin further stated his party's stand, acknowledging Pheu Thai, the coalition leader's prerogative in nominating a Prime Minister candidate. He reiterated that Bhumjaithai will not back any party or person proposing to alter Article 112. This stand was officially stated by the party on May 15, 2023, as a requirement to join Pheu Thai-led coalition.

Anutin also confirmed that other coalition partners share their stand and won't lend their support to anyone advocating for changes to the lese majeste law.

Upon concluding the press conference, Anutin clarified that Bhumjaithai would support any Pheu Thai nominee. However, if Chaikasem is chosen, Pheu Thai would need to convene a joint press conference with coalition partners to publicly disavow any plans to revise Article 112.

Ultimately, while Bhumjaithai lacks the power to influence Pheu Thai's selection, the latter should be able to justify its decision if Chaikasem is chosen for the position.

Hmmmm....

Two judicial coups in a span of a week.

Very Thai.

is it really judicial? Seems to me more like  Military puppets. A truly independent  judiciary would not agree to such interference.

I wonder how he'll feel if him or one of his buddies gets booted by a trumped up charge using 112.....that would be so ironically laughable.................:coffee1:
