Thailand's newly elected Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, delivered an emotional speech on Friday, expressing deep gratitude to the representatives who supported her.

At 37, Paetongtarn has been elected as Thailand's 31st Prime Minister, securing majority support from the House of Representatives.

She thus becomes the country's youngest and second female leader. During her heartfelt speech, Paetongtarn expressed thanks to everyone who voted for her, pledging that she and her team would work tirelessly to fulfill their duties.

She also acknowledged the efforts of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, promising to continue working for the Thai people.

Srettha was dismissed on Wednesday following a Constitutional Court ruling that he had breached ethics rules in a Cabinet appointment.

Touching on her future plans, Paetongtarn said she would wait for the royal endorsement before discussing specific policies. In a lighter moment, she shared a FaceTime call with her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who encouraged her to work hard.

Addressing the expectations and pressures of her new role, Paetongtarn emphasized the strength of her team and her clear drive. She declined to comment on potential ministerial positions until after receiving the royal endorsement.

Despite expressing disappointment over the recent Constitutional Court ruling that led to Srettha's dismissal, Paetongtarn vowed to move forward for the country and her party.

Paetongtarn concluded by reaffirming her commitment to serving Thailand, stating, “I will do my best every day. We face many challenges, but I am confident we can overcome them.”

There are only two reasons why she was selected, number one is her father and number two is the fact that she's young and there's a false notion that she would somehow represent the aspirations of the youth.

We all know that's not going to be the case, she listens to the dinosaur for advice, and she represents the elite, and the corrosive powers, and everything that's regressive and wrong with Thailand at this moment in time.

I hate to sound hopeless, but they're going to need somebody like Thanathorn or Pita to lead the nation out of this moment of darkness. It will happen eventually, none of us really know how long it's going to take, it's up to the Thai people to decide.

The Kamala Harris of Thailand.  But at least she is not a flip flopping Marxist out to destroy Thailand.  Was she legally appointed to run and went through the proper procedure to get to be PM.  So who have a Father, sister, and a daughter from the same family to be PM.  Anyone asking about the 600 million Baht she received the same time her Father did not pat a tax on 1.7 Billion Baht.  If I remember right her brother also received around 600 million Baht after the sale of the cell phone network he owned.

Now, about that 10,000 baht digital wallet.

Vows dedication....I'd be surprised if she could spell it.

Remember when . . .

there was no tax on remittances

there was no worldwide income tax

electricity cost less

there was no VAT on mail order purchases less than 1500 baht

lax visas didn't open the door to Chinese triads and Russian mafias

food and rent was so much lower

(almost forget) there was a half and half stimulus program that actually worked and gave people choices

Remember?

Prayuth was better.

Vows dedication…… to her father, and to enhancing their family fortune. The interests of the country and the Thai people probably didn’t even crack the top 10.

The Shinawatras (billionaire family) are much more like the Trumps (self-proclaimed billionaire family).

Thai politicians, they always promise to work their butt off for the country and for the people, yet when their term is up they don't look worse for wear one bit, with their black hair and new bling...

He has been warned to keep his nose out of politics, but he can't.

He was supposed to have come back to spend time with his grandchildren and due to ill health.

Furthermore, he certainly doesn't look ill at all to me. He's walking fine, and the neck brace has gone, I see.

There could well be trouble ahead, the military are not going to take this laying down, and if it's a toss up between the Military or Thaksin, my money is on the military.

I am sure in my own mind, it would have been him pushing the former PM to employ the corrupt lawyer involved in Thaksin's 'chocolates for the Judges 'case, and then behind the scenes, reporting him, through a puppet, for 'breach of ethics codes '

Definitely agree with you on that one.

I bet his barber in Dubai rated higher than the Thai people.

I reckon Chuan Leekpai was the last honest pm, digging the country out from under Chavalit the baht crash and getting it back on track just in time for Thaksin and the boys to claim his success.

A man so unspectacular he did no harm and received no credit for his achievements -- all while driving to work in a beat-up Honda Accord.

Power corrupts

And absolute power corrupts, absolutely.

Somewhat similar situation to the Philippines, where the Marcos family keep themselves in power forever.

I remember it well, and he was, I think, the poorest MP and PM they ever had.

A real PM who cared for the nation.

Same as Brunei, Russia, Uganda, Belarus, Cambodia, North Korea, Philippines of old,

Then we had previously, Libya, Iraq, Zimbabwe, Cuba, Taiwan, Gabon, Albania, Haiti, and the lists just go on and on.

They never quit, the leopard just pretends it's changed its spots.

And all 145 members of parliament from the former Move Forward, now People's Party, voted against her... + 2 members from some other parties . Totally, 147 votes against.
