He's just observing things we know already. One interesting thing:

Hence the morning coffee shop activity, the  restraunt midday late  breakfast, the beer bar arvo slow drinkers and finally the nite time free for all, one of crowd piss up!

      He didn't see much of Pattaya with his visit.  I suspect large numbers of expats who are not 'loners' do not spend there time in the small part of Pattaya the OP visited, including this expat and others I know.

2000 baht bloody bar fine  and  3000/ 5000 to the girl......This is madness....Crazy money very very very expensive.....For Soi Bukow

 

I would like to grab a guy buy his neck and say....Have you completely lost your mind paying these prices....

One of the better gogo bars I stopped by was Playgirlz, which is on the corner of Soi Buakhao and Soi Boomerang.

 

Playgirlz has been chastised by the owners of other bars for paying high salaries

 

Chatting with girls in the bar, the barfine is 2,000 baht. Now let’s remember that this bar is on Soi Buakhao and not Walking Street, an area once known for cheap Charlies. Will guys in this area pay 2,000 baht for a barfine? I guess some will – but I am just as sure many won’t. The girls’ union has imposed flat-rate pricing with short-time 3,000 baht and long-time 5,000 baht.

i think many choose to be alone because, whether they are prepared to admit it or not, they intrinsically know they are in a pretty dire and humiliating situation when the only way they can get someone to give them any attention is to pay them. whatever way they dress it up they will have a friend or lover or, in their minds a gf, only as long as they keep paying. what must that do to someone's self esteem? some can rise above this feeling, many can't, so choose to be alone. it is very sad and i would guess many are not very happy.

i always wondered what the members of his family and friends, in particular the females, thought and felt about his open condoning and participation in the sex industry. for better or worse, people openly partaking in the sex industry are generally looked down on and regarded with contempt  in society as a whole.

Most won't really care, but the same will apply to you when older if you want someone younger, get the money ready

I haven't read any Stickman since ages. He left Thailand maybe 10 years ago and continued writing pretending he was here. There was no point reading that.

 

And then there was Stickboy, who also owned the Stickman domain. I liked what he wrote. But it seems he got into trouble with people who one should not have as enemies, and he left Thailand in a hurry.

 

Is Stickman now back in Thailand and better informed?

Or is it another author with the same pseudonym?

I think he now says he is living in New Zealand and visits Thailand once a year 

I guess he is married to a Thai lady , apparently he lives in a regional area which he says has beautiful mountains etc in NZ 

I imagine he is retired 

 

I don't know if it's a myth but maybe some kiwis can confirm but I heard they don't get their old age pension sent overseas unlike Australia and the UK

Many bars have difficulties finding attractive girls. And if the bar fine is "normal", then those girls are gone early in the evening.

That leaves the bar with few or no pretty girls. And that is obviously very bad for business.

Increasing the bar fine is one way to (try to) adjust this situation.

i am not 60 yet and have given up trying to make friends here. the schools i worked for had many foreigners, but every time i tried to make friends there were catches. brits like football, i dont. right there a major rallying theme is gone. i dont go out and drink and that is also a rallying point lost. finding genuine people here who actually have interests other than those i mentioned is difficult.

now, it doesnt matter to me so much. i have my wife and our little old dog to keep me company. when you learn to adopt a solitary life it is difficult at first, but as time goes on i find that my expectations for people dont matter as much because i dont really need anyone other than my better half.

 

someone once told me... he was a jackass but this stuck with me...

Also found it strange always saying where "white guys" should go. Totally racist imo

I would guess tourists pay those prices - and expats with a lot of money to burn. 

 

If I were single again, and really, really lonely for female companionship, I would rather spend a few hours at a beer-bar playing "connect 4" with some gal, talking about whatever, than some overpriced, brief, pseudo-sexual encounter which leaves one as empty-feeling as they started, an hour after it is over.  Miss the female-touch?  Go for a massage.

 

Sure, the P4P scene in Thailand is a novelty, when one first arrives here - but I have never understood the obsession with it, for anyone here any length of time.

I don't think Stickman ever pretended to be in Thailand. He says he moved to New Zealand about ten years ago and he writes from there.

 

Stickboy owned Stickman? He should have said that but I don't think he ever said anything about it.

 

Stickman (or whomever is writing it now) says he is in New Zealand most of the year and when he is in Thailand he says he is boots on the ground.

If you not ting tong from before, some places is worse than others to socialize and risk becoming ting tong.

Was in a place 2 days ago near Nana and the BF was 5,000!  

My information is the Japanese and Korean mostly are raising the rates big time.

They have the money and it is probably cheaper then their countries so they are willing to pay.

Crazy.

That was officially confirmed.

I think some time ago Stickboy interviewed Stickman or something like that.

Stickboys website does not exist anymore, so I guess the record is gone.
