The One Fatal Issue That Both Parties Consistently Refuse to Address

Featured Replies

There’s all kinds of fun goodies at the link. Using simple arithmetic that half the country can do, if the interest on the national debt is 3% per year, that's about $1 trillion each year. Tax revenue is only about $5 trillion per year. Bush Sr.'s failure to address this issue in 1992 caused Ross Perot to enter as a third party candidate. He got about 10% of the vote and swung the election to Clinton. It was only about $4 trillion at the time.

It's going to become a brutal society when it finally pops which I believe will be not long after the election regardless of the outcome. I expect traffic on this site will drop off dramatically as people stop thinking about their pronouns and focus on more immediate issues.

It SHOULD pop, but IMO they will paper over the cracks and avert a civil war. If they can fudge their way out of the 2007 fiasco, they can fudge their way out of anything. It's notable that they learned nothing from that almost disaster.

I wouldn't care, but, given the Great Depression example, America's mistakes get inflicted on everyone else as well.

If it does pop, it's going to be really rugged in NZ which is financially embarrassed already, after the last shambles screwed us all.

He could certainly do worse. Unfortunately, there are a lot of crooks in DC and elsewhere that are profiting handsomely from the rotten system as it exists now.

One way or another, the globalists will get their long desired massive reduction of the world's population.

One could say that Gaia works in mysterious ways.

If she can't reduce us by famine, flood, fire, bad weather, disease or war, she'll get the government to do it.

Lose reserve currency status, the USA is <deleted>. So everyone scrambles around with bandaids.

Climate change will produce population shifts on an unprecedented scale, and we will have done it to ourselves.

I'm glad I won't be around to see it.

Post your own links to how healthy the US economy is, then.

On your last sentence I agree. I'm also very happy not to have left children to suffer.

One of the puzzles of the entire situation is why those with children do so little to preserve the future for them. Perhaps they are like me and think there is nothing to be done about it, or they don't believe it at all.

I don't think humans caused climate change, but I do believe it is happening and it's going to be very very bad for a really large number of people.

While I think it's inevitable, there are many things we should be doing to prevent it causing as much chaos as it will if we do nothing. Those land slides are likely caused by cutting down all the trees, we should stop polluting the oceans and overfishing. They should stop burning the rain forest and planting palmoil trees or grass. Public transport should be useful, not an afterthought. People should not be building houses in fire zones or on flood plains.

Etc.

Etc.

The evidence humans have caused climate change is incontrovertible. Prior to 1960 atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were 320 ppm. The annual rate of increase since then is 100 times faster than previous natural increases, such as occurred after the most recent ice age 11,000 years ago. There's only one source, the burning of fossil fuels, which can explain said rate of increase.

The greenhouse effect of carbon dioxide is fact. It's basic chemistry and physics. What really worries scientists is the potential for a decrease in albedo, or increase in methane release from permafrost, to trigger a butterfly effect.

The butterfly effect was first explained by Friedrich Schiller in a short story about 200 years ago. A miniscule change in one part of the world causing catastrophic events in other areas.

There was a time in my life when politicians actually did care about the deficit and "fiscal responsibility."  That time is long gone, and by both parties.  Because to fix the problem, two things need to be done: raise revenue and reduce spending.  Politicians don't get elected by promising to raise taxes and reduce benefits.  And who's to blame?  Honestly, it's the voters fault.  If we voters don't care, the politicians won't care.  Trump raised the national debt by trillions and he still has millions of hardcore supporters.  So this problem won't get fixed in my lifetime.  Small solace for me in that I'll be dead by the time the US government goes bankrupt.

With a collapsing infrastructure, power blackouts galore, bitcoin is not going to save you either. It's just an ephemeral stream of electrons.

Gold and silver, they are real. Solid.

There is some truth to the adage that wisdom comes with age. Not always, but it's a matter of common sense that the more time one has to observe the workings of the world and history, the more accurate the assessments tend to be. Besides, even if bitcoin is a hit, it would be just a matter of time before governments co-opt and make it illegal in favor of their own CBDCs.

I suggest you should have Googled the industrial uses of gold and silver before posting.

What you are posting from, whether it is a smartphone, laptop or desktop, is almost certain to contain silver.

When I am not mistaken, it was the US people, who voted for theri presidents, NOT a foreign army who forced these on the USA

And one thing we know for sure is that that amount is a complete lie, and it's far higher. One thing that most people don't remember is that Dick Cheney had a special law passed by Congress that allowed them to conduct the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan completely off the books. So that's likely an additional 10 trillion dollars that needs to be added to that figure.

And who knows what other things need to be added? The debt is at a ridiculous level at this point, and cannot be sustained.
