A lot of restaurants in NZ are closing.  Everything has just gotten too expensive and families can't afford to dine out.

It's the same in alot of places,  Australia, the US .. the UK,   as you said the family cannot afford to go out for dinner anymore,  prices have skyrocketed and salaries have never kept up.  Labour and produce, materials and logistics  have made everything so expensive that folks just can't afford it,    so then the restaurants go out of business.

What is wrong with that?

$3.40 to feed fish & chips for 6?

Was that in the year 1945?

 in the 60's ...  a piece of fish was like 40-60 cents ( 9.2 baht )    chips started at 60 cents ... (14 baht )

My bad, I didn't know KFC was Thai

KFC.co. Their menu's are very different. I guarantee you cant get rice at a US KFC.

In NZ we can get this, and it is a feed and a half.

The Big Brekkie Beef Burger with rasher bacon, a freshly cracked free range egg, tasty cheese, hash brown, BBQ sauce and a 100% NZ beef 1/4lb patty all between a sesame seed bun. Breakfast just got bigger!

Bloody 'ell - instant cholesterol fix 😆😆

But joking aside, the OP mentioned "zinger burgers" and KFC has been discussed.

I would simply NEVER buy Western fast food in Thailand, especially as I don't eat it in the West!

For me, it would be the street stalls with fried chicken and sticky rice with a little plastic bag of chilli sauce. In other words, Thai fast food.

There is one in particular in Pattaya near where i stay that normally fries about 11AM, so I leave my hotel swimming pool and go out and get "lunch"

Yeah, I saw that.

I was only questioning the first part.

ok

But is there any doubt that McD and many others are American companies?

And because of that they have their compliance departments and all that.

And the only reason they are successful is because they provide clean, safe, consistent food. The staff is clean, the kitchen is clean, and the bathrooms are generally clean.

And maybe their huge marketing budget is another reason...

I suspect you're new here!  Once you've lived here a while, you'll get sick of the over-sweet, over-spiced, MSG ladened Thai food!

Not quite - been going to Thailand since 1985! 😁

Thai food is my very favourite, closely followed by Indonesian, Malaysian Bangladeshi / Indian

I've learned to cook Thai food at home, buying as many genuine ingredients as possible, but I NEVER add MSG!

Very interesting ..........

so you are saying Thai is your 1st choice, then Indonesian food,  and then Malaysian ....   very strange indeed ...  but to each his own.   I love mexican food,  then probably Pizza's, ( proper Italian )  then 3rd possibly Middle east / Lebanese food ....      Thai food is not on my like list,  as alot does not look very appetizing.

well,  a proper Hawaiian does taste pretty damn good ...

And from one website  :

I’ve always said pineapple didn’t belong on pizza….but I was wrong. Hawaiian pizza is delicious – especially with BACON on it! Fresh pineapple, crispy bacon, savory ham, delicious cheese and a homemade pizza crust – this is going to be your Friday night favorite!

If you think Thai food does not look very appetising.... Do not go to the Philippines.

Disgusting sums it up, although their bbq pork is good (Lechon Baboy).

yes,  I don't like boiled fish heads ......   and Thai food is so so .... I mean, you walk through the markets where it's real Thai food sitting in those ss trays for 5 hours,  it's looks disgusting, like slop,  but some Thai restaurant food is ok,  and does taste nice,  but not much.   each to his own.

Each to their own of course.

I forgot Mexican, but it has to be genuine Mexican, NOT Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex!

I lived in Texas years ago and there was a Mexican family-run restaurant about half a mile from my apartment.

I got to know the whole family on first name terms! 😆

It's not really authentic mexican is it .... a bit like Sunrise Tacos....     and I haven't been for years.

it's all fried mince beef ,  not the slow cooked shredded beef which a proper beef nachos should be ..

It's Taco Bell. It's okay, but don't expect much. My wife and kid like it.

If you think McD's is the worst burger in Thailand, you will not like Taco Bell. If you like McD's now and then, you will probably like Taco Smells for a change...

Makes sense. There's not a lot of good Mexican here so I was hopeful.

it's ok once in a blue moon,  as I said it's fried mince,   which is fine food a cheaper version of mexican food.    Their Tacos are tasty ....

Yes there are some things in the markets that even I can't stomach.

Those big plastic pails of fermented (or rotten) fish for one.  Smells so bad and yet I'm told it is nice when added to certain dishes!

I'd rather not take the risk.

I like Thai food due to liking spiciness.  Indian curries are also good.

I've never tried authentic Mexican... maybe one day?  Middle Eastern I find a bit too bland....its ok but not every day.

Have a fermeting fish pail here.

goes good on toast for those occasions I run out of pecks spread.

Hats off to you.  You're braver than I'll ever be.

I don't mind sardines on toast but that stuff is just over the top!

In NZ we had Salisbury fish paste and yes, great on toast
