Any restaurants serving brown rice?

Anyone know of any restaurants in Jomtien/Pattaya that have brown rice? I'm trying to eat healthier whole grain carbs, but everything here in Thailand seems to be refined white rice 🤔

 

Perhaps a pad krapow with brown rice?

It is a weird thing that 99% of places sell only the cheapest white rice, you'd think some would try and differentiate themselves offering a better choice, but no we're in Thailand.

 

But white processed carbs are easier to digest which for me is a good thing

Vegetarian restaurant, Five Star Pattaya Tai had it on my last visit.

Yeah, 'same same but different' regarding alternative milk options in coffee. 9 out of 10 coffee shops only offer whole milk. While rare, it's now possible these days to find oat and almond milk options.  I'm hoping, with time, that more restaurants will start offer healthier carb options like brown rice, quinoa, or the berry rice that the other poster mentioned, which is news to me!

Thanks for the tip, but I doubt the veggie restaurant will let me bring in some chicken or prawns to go with my brown rice 😪 Still good to know, though! Thanks again 🙏

My wife buys rice berry and/or RD 43 (low glycemic) rice for me as I am diabetic, and she seems to want to keep me around a mite longer.🥰

On occasions where white rice is the only option (most restaurants) I simply eat a reduced portion suitable for a diabetic and fill up on the veg/protein parts.

Not a resto but some larger 7-11,s have above the salad section on the top shelf along with jasmine,brown and rice berry.

15 baht for a small tub. Most would probably need a couple of them.

That is something I haven't seen before. I guess it is quite rare. Anyone? Personally I do not like it at all.😆

Stop by 7-11 and pick up a refrigerated container of brown rice for 15 or 20 baht.  They will microwave it for you if you want.

 

Like you have discoved the majority of locals eat white jasmine rice.

I had a great vegetarian paneng curry there a long time ago. There's a vegan restaurant near me, in Pratamnak, Soi 7 Thappraya, aka Soi Moscow. I regularly order egg fried rice in the Thai eatery I frequent in Thepprasit. Just 60 THB with unlimited trimmings, basil, bean sprouts, chilis, cucumber , lettuce etc etc, and water. Dek Sen. Open 24 hours. You can get basmati rice with a Thali, Indian all in one vegetarian tray. About 150 THB. Try India town, 2nd road, next to walking st area. Basmati is such a treat after Thai rice.

Luxury! I did keto for 18 months. No rice, bread, potatoes, pasta and almost zero fruit. Back on the carbs now, I have to admit.

I've always wondered about that, the reality is that 99% of Thai people are utterly fascinated with white rice, despite the fact that there's virtually no nutritional content, and it's absolutely tasteless. The brown rice here is very good quality and some of them are absolutely delicious, so why wouldn't someone prefer absolutely delicious to absolutely tasteless, and very nutritious to completely devoid of nutrition?

 

The answer is that Thai people don't seem to have that education about nutrition, number one, and number two is that brown rice is going to be requested mostly by foreigners, who know better, so it would have to be a restaurant that caters primarily to foreigners. If you're in a resort area like Samui or Chiang Mai it's quite easy to find brown rice in a restaurant.

Plenty of Red rice in Issan--- I eat the odd red rice cake....... use to be thought of as bad by the Thai's and only used in prisons years ago.

Or a variation of that, buy from the(5/10 baht) cooked rice vendors, if convenient and take that into a nearby restaurant that doesn't serve brown rice of their own. They will understand and be agreeable.

7/11 sells it pre cooked in tubs-15 baht they also have rice berry, and that white muck
