Visa exempt / married to a thai national

Hi all / swaadee kup.

 

I plan on visiting thailand with my wife after about 3 years of not visiting. We plan on going for a 3 week holiday for tourism purposes only as shes feeling abit homesick and i also miss the place badly. 

 

I want to enter on a visa exempt as the trip is for 3 weeks and i will get a 60day entry using this method.

 

Would i require a NON O visa as im married to a thai for my visit or will i be allowed in as visa exempt as we are only going for 3 weeks? I have a UK passport and my wifes is thai. I have had NON O visas in the past, and also visa exempt for shorter stays without any issues, but with all the rule changes that thai immigration make, i just wanted to makesure i dont get any nasty shocks at swampy.

You will have no problems with the Visa exempt.

If you were to use it multiple times in a short period,

then they will question why you are not obtaining the marriage extension.

You are probably eligible for various entry / visa types...    

 

It doesn't matter which you use, so long as they are legal and you meet the requirements. 

 

No issues with a Visa Exempt entry whatsoever - its up to you what you arrive on.

 

 

 

If in the rare chance Thai Immigration were to ask you why you don't get a marriage Visa (Non-Imm O) it wont be because they 'need to know' it will only be because they are being nosey... 

... the simple answer to that is 'because there is on need, you're only here for 3 weeks'.

 

 

You will of course want to ensure you meet the return flight and cash requirements, i.e.

- Carry a return ticket (with the return within the length of stay limits)

- Carry 20,000 cash (or currency equivalent) 

 

 

 

In short, this one is an absolute no brainer if planning to stay for 3 weeks. 

You are a tourist, Visa Exempt Entry is designed exactly for this purpose.

OP, just have proof of return/onward flight within 60 days.

That may be required by airline at departure.

Your wife will be there with you, so you have "Royal flush" hand, can't have a better reason to enter Thailand.

He doesn't need a Thai wife.

He can enter Thailand as a tourist and receive visa exempt stamp.

It's only the airline at departure  that may wish to see onward flight

The Thai wife lets him avoid the long immigration queue (on entry)...
