Popular Post snoop1130 Posted September 25, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2024 A Russian man yesterday faced a 5,000 baht fine after dangerous driving on Koh Samui, an island in the southern province of Surat Thani. Locals were impressed by the police’s swift action, though some felt the punishment was too lenient. A Thai woman took to a Facebook group called รวมพลคนสมุย (meaning Samui locals gathering) to expose the dangerous behaviour of the foreign driver, later identified as 30 year old Russian man Aleksandr Sharygo. The woman shared a picture of Sharygo’s yellow luxury car with a caption. “Foreign driver drove very dangerously and almost hit me. I saw him on the Fisherman-Bor Phut Road at about 7.30pm. Be careful, everyone.” She also included a video of Sharygo’s reckless driving in the comments section. The video showed the yellow Nissan car speeding and cutting off a truck in a narrow alley. The car was also seen parked in a prohibited spot on the road. Officers from Bor Phut Police Station conducted their investigation and discovered the luxury car parked outside a hotel in the area. The police checked the registration details and found that the Russian man failed to report the change of the car’s colour to the officials and had not paid the vehicle tax. The officers confiscated the car, prompting Sharygo to meet them later at the police station. Sharygo insisted that he obtained the car legally and had paid the required taxes. However, the records had not yet appeared in the system as the showroom had not finished preparing the ownership documents. Nevertheless, the failure to report the change in the car’s colour violated the Land Transport Act, resulting in a 5,000-baht fine. The police also warned the foreigner not to drive recklessly, as shown in the video, again. Sharygo admitted to his inappropriate actions and issued an apology to local motorists and pedestrians. Many Thai netizens were impressed with the police’s swift action, while others wanted the foreigner punished more severely. Some even urged police to confiscate the car to prevent him from repeating his dangerous driving on the island and possible accidents. Popular Post Tropicalevo Posted September 25, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2024 Crikey. 24 years of living here and the police cop someone at last for driving dangerously. They could catch someone every day here on that one. However, he did not get a fine for his driving. The fine was for not telling the LTO about the change of colour of the car. Amazing Thailand. 3 8 4 5
Popular Post Gottfrid Posted September 25, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2024 Yes, he should have a bigger fine, as he was not fined for his driving. So, should even a lot of Thai drivers, and should definitely stop commenting on foreign drivers. Thats like throwing stones in glass house 1 3 1 2

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted September 25, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2024 I thought there was something fishy about this headline because I've never seen anyone pulled over for reckless driving, it's just not something that the police or the highway patrol engage in, nor care about. You can be as reckless as you want on these roads and nobody will ever stop you So now we find that the reckless driving was simply a warning connected to other violations, it figures. 1 1 1 2
arick Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Such a joke punishment to lenient My God how strict they are in Samui. In Chiang Mai you can drive a luxury car and kill two people on a motorcycle with no license no car insurance no mandatory insurance and walk away scotfree with no fine. Or is it Thais being racist if you're a Thai person you can walk away free but if you're a foreigner you get fined 5,000. 1 1 1

Yes something doesn't make sense about the story number one who's the person that got hit number two you don't get fined 5,000 for reckless driving.

Yeah it's a Z car ruined with nasty alloys and a bad colour scheme and an horrendous spoiler. It's far from luxury and far from a super car rofl. Not even expenaive. At 30 he should know better, 0% style, 100% prat. 6 1 1 2

RichardColeman Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 My opinion, anyone with a car like that that is arrested or charged should get an automatic look as to how they paid for the car if they own it and where the money comes from 1 1
