I bought some glue today to repair a plastic PVC chair

Well,  I tried epoxy A+B glue,  it's useless as it doesn't adhere to plastic very well, so essentially comes off under stress in a day or so.

Tried super-glue ... but I just don't think super-glue will cut it because it may be strong,  it doesn't last 6 months,  it'll break again in no time.

 

So now I bought some imported glue to try,  and I'll attempt a repair tomorrow morning...

 

all the instructions are included on the glue tube so I'll be fine ...   

 

and if I have a problem I can call that emergency number at the bottom...  4001558138  ...      they are so helpful,   what could possibly go wrong    !

Good luck, I've never been glue lucky.  Personally I'd get a new chair, or go to bed.

you are correct,    every time I try to use super-glue I end up with glue drops on the floor, on my fingers,  everywhere but where I want it,  I get scared when I get the super-glue out ....

it's just my shaky hands don't put the glue nozzle where I want it to go easily,  and some may end up on my shorts, the floor, my fingers,  and wherever else it can.

Can you bolt a piece of metal to both ends of whatever is broken?  Like a splint?  That will probably be better, just not great to look at.

not really,   as it's cracked at the curve where it starts to go up at the back rest ...

if it was straight... yes maybe,  but not a curve

Glue will never work but, depending what kind of chair it is, you should be able to get it re-upholstered in part or completely for peanuts. If it's simply a plastic moulding then bin it.

You need to rough it up, and drill some small holes in it to take the glue. lose weight.

You probably mean epoxy putty,  there are several available and some better than others. With that I would think you need to bridge the break.

I would suggest you try pipe glue. The pipes are PVC and every chance the chair is as well. Test the glue on an unseen part of the chair first, the plastic should go sticky.

Why not just replace the chair? Plastic chairs are dirt cheap.

You can use baking soda to fill the gap and drip on the super glue. It will form a hard plastic like substance in the gap.

 

I take the top off the bottle of superglue and put in a large sowing needle to drop it on the area I want to glue. I'm talking about the white bottles with the orange cap you find in mom and pop shops. 

 

Keep the bottle upright in the fridge and it will last for ages.

For PVC I would use Solvent Cement as used by plumbers.

Lazada sells a pvc/leather repair kit for fixing sofas.  The creamy lotion can be applied by sponge or rag and hardens onto the sofa making cracks in the leather dissappear.

 

My 25 year old leather sofa was cracking and looked horrible and it looked much better after application.  You can see the cracks in the before picture and how they dissappear in the after picture.

 

For a big rip in the sofa they have glue on patches.  Like a bicycle intertube repair patch.  Not a perfect solution, but better then looking at a hole.

 

I also inquired my sofa repair shop how much to remove old pvc/leather sofa 3 seat and apply new and was quoted 40,000 baht.

On a wild guess I would think the stuff they use for PVC pipe house plumbing installation or repair might work?  EZ Weld PVC Cement, or any similar type of products?

it's a plastic chair ....   anyway,   jobs done,   just gotta paint it cream color now and that's it.

I've gotta say that is pretty good glue ....   it's rock hard now after 1 day ...   I'll spray some paint on it and it'll do ...     those chairs are a poor design,  they should have a support there already.
