65-Year-Old Farmer Discovers Baby’s Body Buried with Toy Rabbit in Rice Field
Picture from responders. A tragic discovery was made in a rice field in Ban Lak Pai, Wang Hin Subdistrict, Si Sa Ket Province, when a 65-year-old man found the body of an infant buried alongside a toy rabbit. Police from Wang Hin Police Station, forensic officers from Si Sa Ket Provincial Police, and a medical examiner from Wang Hin District Hospital were called to the scene to investigate. The body of a baby girl, estimated to be less than one month old, was found buried in a mound of soil in the middle of a rice field. Wrapped in a white towel and accompanied by a white stuffed rabbit, the baby’s body appeared intact. The discovery was made by Mr. Prasert Chaleekul, aged 64, who had been tending to his cows nearby. While searching the field for rat tracks to prepare traps, he noticed disturbed soil covered by a piece of wood. Using a stick to investigate, Mr. Prasert first uncovered the towel and toy rabbit before eventually discovering the baby’s foot. Shocked by the find, he immediately alerted the village headman and contacted the authorities. Mr. Prasert recounted that such an incident had never occurred in the area before. He mentioned seeing two teenagers, wearing face coverings, riding a motorcycle near the location on the afternoon of 6 January. They had drawn no attention at the time, as he assumed they were hunting for field rats. However, given the circumstances, he believes they may have been involved in burying the baby. The medical examiner estimates the baby had died two to three days prior. Whether the baby was buried after death or while still alive remains uncertain, pending a detailed autopsy. Authorities are currently gathering evidence from the scene and investigating the teenagers’ possible involvement. Efforts are underway to track down those responsible for burying the infant. -- 2025-01-10 -

Cheapest way to call a UK HMRC phone number
HMRC have a very good webchat service which is what I use to contact HMRC. I have successfully used it a couple of times to get my tax code corrected on the spot. Use it during UK business hours. Initially you will get a "digital" assistant, then you ask to speak to a human. You will go into a queue and you will eventually chat with a "real" person. I've never had to wait very long and no call charges. You can also save the chat for your own record of the conversation. https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/ask-hmrc/chat/online-services-helpdesk -

Thai worker allegedly thrown to death by Cambodia call centre scam gang
Was an article on sky news about scam centres last week but I just caught the end of it . They were interviewing a Thai who was forced to work there and had escaped. Pretty sure the place was in South Korea but it was basically a mini town about 5x3 km in size and everything in it was scam centres . The police wouldn't enter the place due to who was running all the different buildings and there were videos showing the people running it torturing and beating workers. Looked absolutely horrific.- 1

Police Officer Injured in Drug-Fueled Attack in Khong Chiam
Picture courtesy of Matichon. A police officer was injured in a violent incident in Khong Chiam district, Ubon Ratchathani, while responding to a report of a drug-fuelled disturbance involving a knife-wielding man. On January 8 at approximately 16:30, officers from Khong Chiam Police Station received a call about a man behaving erratically in Ban Phon Paeng, Moo 4, Huai Yang Subdistrict. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Pornchai Chanapot, encountered Mr. Phrai, a 53-year-old man reportedly under the influence of methamphetamine. The man was seated on a wooden bench. While initially unarmed, Mr. Phrai became agitated upon seeing the police. He grabbed a machete, from nearby and charged at the officers. Pol. Sub. Lt. Setthasit Khunthong, aged 57, sustained head injuries in the attack, but the suspect was quickly subdued by the injured officer’s colleagues. The officers arrested Mr. Phrai and confiscated the machete. A search revealed he was in possession of 11 methamphetamine pills. He was charged with attempted murder of an officer on duty, obstructing law enforcement, possession of illegal narcotics, and drug use. Pol. Sub. Lt. Setthasit was immediately taken to Khong Chiam Hospital, where he received seven stitches for two wounds on his head. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home. Pol. Col. Ratchapol Sermsaran, Superintendent of Khong Chiam Police Station, stated that officers adhered to operational protocols, including the use of non-lethal equipment such as forked restraining tools. However, the situation escalated rapidly as Mr. Phrai armed himself before officers could intervene. To support the injured officer, the station has provided a care gift package and financial assistance as a gesture of goodwill. -- 2025-01-10 -
