What always amazes me is that most posters who are idiots have no problem displaying their idiocy and ignorance.

You describe yourself so well... I guess you forgot to add arrogance.

They don't need permission upon declaring an emergency. The airport becomes theirs.

I am a certificated pilot.  Are you?

You need to learn to read. I never said they need permission. I said they didn't need to issue an emergency yet as they were in contact with the tower and still had 30 min of fuel. Every pilot can use their discretion on issuing 1 of 2 notices for distress or emergency if its deemed necessary. Most pilots don't panic like apoarent you do. They follow training and contact instructions from traffic control

You need to stop the arrogance in your posts as you may not be the only pilot on the forum

You would also be a fool to show up with less than minimum fuel.

Not sure who is the fool here. They had sufficient fuel, were in contact with the tower as were instructed to circle which they did and then received permission to land. You don't know the extent of the situation or the communication. All you know is the poorly written article that sensationalized the situation. Get a gripe on yourself. For someone that's supposed to be a pilot you seem to have no tolerance level to deal with a moderately stressed story. I'd hate to see you in flight.

There are ICAO rules, FARS in the USA and company procedures and minimums.  For commercial purposes, all have to be followed. The story is incomplete. I have no idea how much fuel they had when they were first denied landing. They may not have had an emergency when they arrive.

It sounds as if games were played by ATC that turned into an emergency.

Again learn to read. They circled for 45 min before landing with 30 min of fuel remaining. Appears like no emergency needed to be declared as they had constant communication with ATC during their circling. ATC was well aware of their status.

He is definitely not the only pilot on this forum - in fact I would wager he is not one of the pilots on this forum.

The pilot I do know on here writes in aviation threads in a very polite, well informed and knowledgable manner. He comes across as very professional which is what you would expect of a highly trained commercial pilots who works in a high stress environment and whose job it is to remain calm and collected.

The troll you are referring to is just a shouty arrogant wannabe.

Thirty minutes of fuel is already an emergency.  If the Captain has no place to land and the ATC is screwing with him, it's an emergency.

ATC can declare an emergency for a pilot.

All these stupid what-if questions are a waste of time.

Only waste is your constant useless analysis of a situation that wasn't occurring. The tower was in communication. With the plane and knew their status. The airport the plane was circling certainly was a place to land so your claims are empty. Your showing that you are either full of it and a pilot wannabe or that you would be useless as a real pilot as you couldnt handle the normal level of stress with any ability to communicate effectively under pressure.
