Thai Govt Officials Gear Up for F1 Race Discussions

Total waste of assets… F1 is a money making machine with no outside vendors allowed. I doubt it brings much local revenue. Been once in Singapore outrageous prices poor visibility of the race.  memorabilia eye water prices better to watch the TV if you want to see the race. Well out of the price range of the average person never mind Thai citizens. Unless they implement the dual pricing scheme 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

I can see it already: Thai price 2,000 baht, foreigner price 10,000 baht.

You actually raise an interesting point there - one that the Thai government would absolutely hate.

This 'event' is very unlikely to ever take place and even if it did, I doubt they'd try dual pricing but they would almost certainly try carrying out other aspects in the 'Thai way'.  But let's say they did introduce dual pricing - the FIA would not allow it and so the friction would begin.

The Thai government will be told from the off that the race, track and spectator facilities have to comply with FIA standards.  During discussions the Thai's would do their usual 'yes, of course' and 'absolutely' - stating their agreement with all FIA requirements, knowing full well that they would in fact, try to do things their way.

It would therefore, be a very short lived relationship - probably cancelled after the first race.

There is also the matter of corruption - something that is endemic across all aspects of Thai business.  One hint of corruption in any aspect of the event would lead to cancellation by the FIA/Liberty Media - even if the track was built and ready.  Thailand should probably look at what happened to the Vietnam event with regard to corruption and decide if they can live with someone else calling the shots.

Apart from the physical aspects, the Thai government needs to ask itself if it can 'live' with not being in control of an F1 event on precious Thai soil - something I doubt very much.

Thailand has a track built to F1 spec.

Buritam's hospitality industry isn't up to F1 expectation and for it to be worthwhile economically

and looks like F1 will only look for street race- either sea side or thgough something spectacular like grand palace

either way the endless consultant paid to to feasibility study on this will have their payday whether or not the race went through

Maybe the red bull kid will attend, he likes F1

I would guess that if Thailand does indeed get a F1 race (big if) that it will be timed to occur on the weekend after the statute of limitations expire on his case.

No dual pricing for MotoGP.... why would F1 be any different ?

It was initially meant to be tongue in cheek, but then F1 is expensive. I can't quite see weekend grandstand tickets costing 5,000 baht as with MotoGP. The 20-25% discount was also interesting for PT card members. Hopefully as a Shell user, I'd get an F1 discount if I wear a Ferrari top 😉

This will likely be "discussed" at the taxpayers expense for many years and will go nowhere
it does sound good, that is the hype to get people excited to keep the discussion and the money flowing
i too thought such would be good here, but i think a rally would be better
as drivers cannot complain about potholes then lol
but seriously to talk about doing it in BKK is just dumb,
as just no way it can happen without a tonne of disruption to many businesses
the only roads suitable are the elevated toll highways, yay first F1 race with toll booths (obvs they cannot use)

There is a racetrack in Buriram that would be better suited than trying to plan for BKK
but that would be too straight forwards, so less discussion, so less funds

Note Buriram Airport already has a major new terminal building probably designed with international flights in mind and associated runway expansion nearing completion. Chang International Circuit with a Moto GP Race track layout is about 38Km from the airport.

A major investment currently operating with only 2 return flights a day to DMK airport in Bangkok - "Amazing Thailand".

I wonder if the PM is fully aware.

the fact that Buriram would be the more ideal location, as it already has a track, shows this is just a money grab
discussing the impossible for years to come
how are those space rockets they were "discussing" coming along
The hub of planning.

Motor sports are not limited to just F1.

I see no reason for Thailand not having more race tracks and rally courses.

Soon Bangkok will be underwater so why invest there at all ?

BKK will not be under water the CC is clearly a hoax
but yes, it always baffled me why they do not have more tracks etc
i think once you show you are prepared to invest and do things correctly, which costs a lot
a comity will quickly be formed to see how many new licenses they can create for you to pay.
always thought banger racing, demolition derby, would be great here
they should do Formula Thai with pickups
or my favourite would be rocket league but with real cars
rocket league is game where you play 3-a-side football but with cars and obviously an oversized ball
