Popular Post webfact Posted November 16, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 16, 2024 Thailand's Ministry of Finance is poised to introduce a one-time cash payment initiative targeting the elderly, as confirmed by Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul. This proposal, amounting to 10,000 baht, will be presented during the upcoming economic stimulus policy committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 19. This new measure specifically excludes state welfare cardholders and disabled individuals who previously received 10,000 baht in the initial phase of the consumption stimulus programme in late September. To access this financial aid, eligible recipients must register via the Tang Rat app, a government platform for disbursing funds. “The eligible age range will be determined by the committee, potentially starting from either 50 or 60.” Paopoom emphasised the rationale that older individuals possess diminished income-generating capabilities compared to other demographic groups. The deputy minister anticipates that this second phase will see fewer applicants compared to the initial phase, with disbursements likely occurring at the end of this year or early next year. For those lacking smartphone access, alternative registration methods will be made available, with further updates to follow. “All registered Thais will eventually receive the 10,000 baht payment, as the government has earmarked over 180 billion baht for this purpose.” Paopoom noted that the precise timing and conditions are still under review. Adjustments will be based on feedback from relevant agencies to ensure the effectiveness of the programme. The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting will feature a presentation by the Finance Ministry outlining a comprehensive framework for stimulus measures. This framework aims to address short-, medium-, and long-term strategies, ensuring a holistic approach to economic stimulation across various sectors, reported Bangkok Post. And remind me of when the offer of 10K for your vote was made? Payment will be soon they say? 1
crazykopite Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I would have thought the elderly would have been the first to get the 10,000 baht it seems this was not the case shameful !
Bobthegimp Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Helicopter money, aka "putting out the (inflation) fire with gasoline". People also become more reliant on the government and more inclined to go along with its dictates. 1
BrandonJT Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Seems like they're purposely punishing the typical Move Forward Party voter, who tended to be younger and able-bodies. They promised 10k to everyone, but now the people who didn't vote for them are being left out of the payments. First they sent it to disabled, and now they are sending it to the elderly, who are all more likely to have voted for a traditional party. 2 1

hydraides Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Printing money from thin air......because they can...... Potentially could cause very high inflation (10-20% increase+) in the coming month and will hurt thais in the long run 1 1
jcmj Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 They should never give a lump sum as most will use it up within a week. They definitely should make monthly payments to help them but a one off payment will just not work. 1

I see no shame in handing out the monies to the welfare cardholders first. They are invariably the oldest and the most needy in Thai society.
metisdead Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Some off topic posts about foreign pensioners have been removed.
john donson Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 on top of the 10.000 baht vote scam? so 50 is elderly ? all the food stallers earning well and never reporting any income will be happy and the rice grow watchers too 1
shackleton Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I am happy for the Thai elderly to receive the 10,000 baht Better than some Governments we know who don't look after their elderly
