Thailand is the land of happiness for sure. It was a hard time for me before coming to Thailand.

I think Thai bar pretties marry customers just because their customers cannot marry other girls who cannot speak English. And demand creates supply.

I'm sure there is many variations as there is people almost, but the pray for hard-core street smart prostitutes, I guess might be those who struggled back home. 

 

And quite a few of those who never figured out the game, or the red signals. 

 

There is to many with bad experiences and also those who become haters, grumpy and so on just because they did not pay attention to learn the game or the rules

She thinks (and is mostly right) that she marries an ATM. The social values of a Thai compared to a Caucasian is mostly diametral but the Caucasian does not realize this most of the time and if so, it is too late.

Mama sees some gold as well and everything seems to be restored. The cold truth is, that the girl plies the trade of "les belles de nuit" which she shares with hundred thousand other girls. Irregular payments to the village for the offsprings upkeepinig, frequent hair dressing, lots of alcohol and other pops, gambling and the notorious boyfriend-cum-motorbike-delivery-boy ensure, that the bottomless pit stays bottomless. 

Comes along Khun Farang from faraway lands, funny language and funny food, but who cares. Off she goes to farangland, no sanook, but far away from all the misery and all those people leeching off whatever they can. The farang usually has a story of his own being divorced with some kids in the ex's custody and life is miserable as well. Ideal fertile ground for such relations. It usually works though only, if the farang does not have too high expectations or is not the sharpest tool in the box. 

In most cases it does not work in the long run. He met the girl in a bar and fears that whoever spills bigger banknotes will take over the bounty. She, on the other hand, does not trust Khun Farang either as he paid/pays for her. If he finds a better deal - not essentially financial alone - then she's past history. 

Vicious circle indeed; and if he's a tourist living outside Asia, then he will learn pretty soon, that you can take a Thai out of Thailand but you cannot take Thailand out of a Thai.

Definitely for their Personal Safety Net after their retirement.

This kingdom is far from the Welfare State(unlike Europe, Australia, and NZ).

These people certainly cannot work for the same industry for life.

And eventually end up as the Unemployable; without any other skills for the straight jobs.

 

Before the worst happen to them, they must find someone willing to financially look after them for the rest of their life(after which they can no longer earn money by themselves).

 

Otherwise, they could well be the urban homeless/beggars in the streets.

Their family back home, sometime discard them while they have relied on such women's earning while they could do so. And the ex-hookers may not have anywhere else  to go when they get old.

 

In the 1st world, the aged are usually protected by national scheme.

But it is not the case here for the self-employed(including sex workers).

So they have to get some form of substitution to save their future life from the hopeless destitution.
