The seismic activity, occurring at a shallow depth of 1 km, was centred in Ban Thi, Lamphun. Reports affirm that tremors were felt in two surrounding districts of two different provinces. Local residents, though startled, reported no serious damage. Emanating from the Mae Tha fault line, the quake struck late yesterday evening, November 21, at approximately 8.45 pm. Despite its small magnitude, the earthquake, categorised as a micro-earthquake, sparked some unease among the residents of Ban Thi in Lamphun, and those in On Tai, San Kamphaeng and Nong Phueng in Saraphi, Chiang Mai. Collectively, they breathed a sigh of relief as initial assessments by local authorities revealed neither structural damage nor injuries. The Department of Mineral Resources was quick to address the situation: "The earthquake was minor, and no significant damage has been reported," affirmed an official representative. "We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates if more information becomes available." Interestingly, the Mae Tha fault line, a notorious instigator of seismic action in the region, has been under keen watch due to its propensity to initiate minor earthquakes. Such geological phenomena are typical within areas of tectonic activity. However, as yet, this particular tectonic nemesis has rarely resulted in substantial damage. This recent tremor, while causing no significant harm, underlines the urgent need for continued vigilance in monitoring such natural occurrences to mitigate risks and ensure public safety. Officials politely remind residents to stay informed and prepared for any sudden shake-ups. Backed by The Department of Mineral Resources' ongoing surveillance, any new developments will be communicated swiftly, ensuring the well-being of locals is maintained. "Preparedness and awareness amongst the residents are crucial in minimising potential impacts from any future seismic activities," a local official wisely noted, providing, in essence, a seismic version of the 'stitch in time saves nine' adage.
