Hi folks,

Everyday more and more loud motorbikes, most young Thai men, but also Thai ladies.
Foreigners are also contributing. Even tourists, who rent a motorbike with a modified exhaust pipe.
Recently I asked a foreigner why he took out the silencer of his exhaust pipe of his motorbike.
He said "I love the roaring sound!"
I said that I didn't like it.
He replied "Yeah, there are many like you who don't like it, but I don't give a <deleted>, I love it".
And he said "police doesn't have device to check the level of noise, so, they can't do anything and if they do, I just pay 500 baht and I move on, ha ha".
Such a selfish ***hole.

I know people who are considering moving to Bang Saray. Some already go there during daytime in order to sit at the beach without hearing roaring motorbikes.

Walking at Jomtien or Dongtan Beach is not pleasant anymore (well, at least for me and some people I know).

Any people here who are willing to do something? How about this:
1. Complain regularly at tel 1337 or email saraband{at}pattaya.go.th (City Hall)
2. Complain at the police station, traffic police, not the main entrance but the office number 13, left hand side.
3. If living in a compound or condominium, would it be possible to implement a rule, that no scooters or heavy motorbikes with loud exhaust pipes
are allowed inside the compound (if applicable) or in the parking area? Propose it in the annual meeting.
4. If staying in a hotel as a tourist, complain about the noise with the manager. Mention you are doubting to book there again next year.
5. For real estate agents: I think in the long term loud motorbikes could be bad for business: pls standup together and as a group ask the mayor and police to act. I am thinking of leaving Pattaya, solely for this reason.
6. Hotel managers: it might be bad for your business as well. I heard about people who left a hotel after one sleepless night.
7. Restaurant owners, eg alongside Jomtien Beach: do you realize it is unpleasant to dine there, when nearly every minute customers have to stop talking due to the loud noise? I never eat there, just because of this reason.
8. Even dozens of taxi motorbikes have modified exhaust pipes: if you order a Bolt taxi motorbike or a 'orange vest' taxi motorbike and you are confronted with a loud motorbike: refuse the ride and tell him the reason.
9. Organize a petition in your compound or condominium building, get 50-100 signatures and deliver it at the mayor's office in City Hall.
10. Pattaya Expats Club: could you guys do something? Request the mayor to act.

Let's do something!

Cheers!

It's bad in Bangkok, too, and also nothing done about it.

Every post OP has made on this forum is complaining about Motorbike noise. If it bothers him so much why not just move?

I have same condo for 15 years in central Pattaya and never had any Motorbike noise

It’s just a small proportion of bikes that are the problem. I’m in Bangkok at the moment, and notice that as a light turns green, there’s sometimes a swarm of a couple of dozen bikes accelerating away, but a single one of them is easily 10 times louder than all of the rest put together.

Even in nanny state Australia, home of some of the world’s most draconian road rules, nothing seems to be done about bikes that clearly far exceed any reasonable limit on noise, so there’s no way the problem will ever be solved in Thailand.

They don't bother me but I use 0,10c ear plugs.

Yes, some are loud and I see more and more wealthy looking Arabs on expensive bikes w loudest pipes.

Thai kids don't have big bikes - no THB to buy them. They are not that loud.

In the US Harleys can have straight pipes and cops say nothing. It's a birthright.

How do I know? Well, I had two HDs with Vance & Haines Shorties. Awesome sound.

On soi bukhao and two noisy Motorbikes just went past. I'll now stop having my fun day and immediately report these noisy bikes like the OP is insisting 😆

How do you do it if you don't read and understand Thai?

To me license plate writing reminds more bird's steps on the beach.

Where you live...     your place is clearly a measure of tranquil serenity that the Op is clearly in need of...

Help out the forum community and let the Op know where this silent condo of yours is... :whistling:

Don't move to the countryside. Those fighting cocks will drive you up the wall.

No, I wake up before them.

This is a huge complaint of mine in TH.  Both modified motorcycles and tuk-tuks (even worse!).  I can never understand what's the resistance to crackdown.  Aren't Thais bothered by this also?   Stand outside on any main street in BKK and within minutes there will be a thundering roar that forces all conversation to stop until it ebbs.

This isn't like air pollution that is complex and hard to stop.  Annual inspections already exist.  It just needs the PM or Mayor to say "make it stop now!".  There's no political downside, but tremendous upside.

Police don't need a machine, just their ears.  It's an easy way to collect THB 500.  Eventually it will lessen when these young men get tired of paying the bribes and realize it's cheaper to replace with a stock muffler.

rant over.

Heck, I went down Klang yesterday being somewhat deafened by an older guy on what appeared to be a Harley....all noise over substance, as it didn't appear o be able to go particularly fast.  Not a young rider either......

The locals just don't seem to be bothered by the standard noises of life here, motorcycles, farm vehicles, dogs and cockerels... it's just day to day life.

The only time I've heard any complaints where we live (and the noise can be horrific), was when the monks in the temple hired one of those ******* stupid music buses and drove it round the village at 3am for an hour.....??????

Un*******believable.
