In Thailand, I would need to spend my full pension and maybe more on hospital bills. So, yes, I can still afford to dine out in Spain.

How much is your rent, your water, your electric, your cell phone?   And after you've spent most of your pension paying for those, can you still afford to dine out?

  • You guys are delusional. You are so busy licking Thai boots that you have completely lost the plot.    He is not paying double for condo because he doesn't live in chicken farm condo. Just b

That food at your link looks good.   I forget where you wrote that you were.  Is it Chiang Mai where those restaurants are, that served the food in the pictures?

Roadside vendor just north of Prachuap Khiri Khan city.    First time there and a nice surprise.  Definitely pop back in, as both dishes I had, beef noodles & Yum were tasty.

Thank you sir.   It looks like my restaurant hunt continues.

Most of the western or near western food that I buy is usually in the shopping malls of Bangkok.   Usually not cheap either.   I did find one in a mall called "The Mall" that has really good food (I think they claim organic) that isn't overly expensive.  They even grow some of their own vegetables hydroponically.  My wife was in Thailand in October and was taunting me with pictures when she ate there!!

Thai food is not comparable like in the West. Thai food in the west actually tastes like something. In Thailand it tastes like slop.

It sounds like you don't like Thai food. Restaurants in the West that purport toarly always serve more sushi, Chinese, or some other non-Thai cuisine because many Westerners don't like the strong tastes and flavors that are typical of Thai food. Thai restaurants in medium and small cities have IME always served more non-Thai Asian food. It's harder to source the better-quality recip be Thai will nee items in the West.

Maybe you are someone that prefers their 'Sunday Roast' or a 'Proper Breakfast'??

If passing through the area, that one linked is convenient either direction, as u-turns aren't to far away.   Good if not wanting to leave the main road (#4).   Surfside is close enough if wanting to chill there.   But if in a hurry ... plenty of roadside places that serve decent food, and no rip off prices.

Further south, there's P2N Restaurant, and they seem to own or lease most of the Bangchak plaza, which does have PEA CS.  Food is decent and reasonably priced.

Just off Hwy #4, a favorite of ours, 'Ban Jib @ Ban Krut', and partial to the Chicken Green Curry w/Roti (a bit spicy).  Lovely setting behind the cafe part, which they move forward for some reason.  If not venturing further, you'd miss all those photo opts :coffee1:

Even further south, near PKK & Chumphon border, 'Garage Cafe Chumphon' has reasonably priced tasty food also.  Along with being a Tesla charging station.

Thank you.  I will be in Thailand in February until March next year, but I don't think I will be that way.

I agree, many things are cheaper here. My rent in a high-rise on 44th floor in a good area of Bangkok is 1/2 of what I would pay in a comparable city in my home country. I am walking distance to the BTS skytrain, with several high-end malls and plenty of restaurants, shops & grocery stores. I don't need a vehicle, so I save on those expenses. I find in-country flights to be cheaper too. There are some things I find that are just as expensive as in my home country; things like good quality steaks, wine, imported beers & cigars. I love Thai food, but I don't eat street food. I prefer eating out at nice restaurants, so I find those are just as expensive as back home. Overall, I find Thailand is less expensive for me to live the same lifestyle as I would in my home country.

True, on these aspects Thailand is cheaper than most western countries.

I would have stayed in Thailand if that was the only point.

But as you grow older and suffer with health problems like me, Thailand is way more expensive.

You only need to look at the people resorting to a GoFound.me in case of an accident and hospitalist is required. The price can be in the millions of baht.

I can get no insurance at my age and with my previous ailments.

Smart choice to go to EU and use Belgian insurance.

I just red it's the best in EU.

The reason is government and private sectors are not fighting but working together in harmony!

Unheard in the US or most EU countries....

NO waiting neither!

"Belgium's healthcare system is one of the best in Europe. With a combination of compulsory health insurance and social security contributions, Belgium has a very well-funded system. In fact, since 2009, Belgium has consistently been one of the few countries that spends over 10% of its GDP on healthcare."

Not quite rught.
The Belgian health care system was already invented in 1800's.
The workers on the mining company created a funds to help the unfortunate people who lost their job or had health problems.
Later, the workers in steel factories, garment factories, etc. created each the same idea.
The health care funds is now a compulsory system in which the worker put 12% of their salary jn the funds and the employer put also 12% on the funds.

Rent is 450 EUR for an apartment with lift near the beach (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, etc.).
Electricity and water have not arrived yet, but the previous tenant paid 35 a 40 EUR monthly on electric and about 15 EUR on water.
I paid on arrival 20 EUR for a SIM card with Internet and Calls (Orange)
Yes, I can still afford to dine out and drink my glass of wine.

I wouldn't argue with Thai apologists. I pay less in OZ for most of the goods. My rent for a 2-bedroom unit is 240 AUD per week, the latest electricity bill was 110 AUD for 2 months, water is free, no rent increase for 8 years, and 5 litres of wine is 14 AUD, food is about 95 AUD for 2 weeks. I posted my bills many times, but people just don't believe it, and I am not living in the sticks; I am living in the capital city of Western Australia

Correction. It's the woman who you pay to pretend to be your wife's house and you are paying the equivalent of 227 pounds a month in mortgage payments.

Breakfast was at 10:15, and been awake for 4 hrs already, only having coffee since awake.

Usually it's eggs, and 1100 or later, but doing some testing with my CGM, so this week everything is different.  Having a Fish Sandwich for brekkie today :coffee1:
