You’re kidding yourself.  The first thing you lose with dementia is self-awareness.  You can’t fix dementia, but you can avoid it by going early.

Maybe the people who worked in some boring job all their life and who had to take care of children are happy when they finally retire. No work anymore, no annoying children anymore, time for hobbies.

Personally, I like my job. I never wanted children and never had children. Sometimes my life was busier, sometimes not so much. I always had a home, nice enough food, I lived where I wanted to live, had friends, had my hobbies, and I lived happily most of my life. I always lived in the now and didn't save a lot for a future when I am old. I am still ok with money, but I don't have enough until I am 90. But why would I want to be 80 or 90? It's not getting better.

 

How about you? Is there anything in your life that is more fun with 60, 70, 80, 90 or whatever? Or is it just living another year, with a little more medial issues, with a little less power?

Better be careful.  My dad died at age 61.  I retired at 65 and only expected to be around for 2 or 3 years.  Now I'm 87 and still enjoying life!!   My average life expectancy is 5 years!!  It could happen to you, so be careful with your money!  Fortunately, I have two US government pensions and my retirement account have grown substantially since I got here in 2022 because I have been judicious about withdrawals.  A word to the wise!

I have no issues with ladies chasing me. Mostly the old and ugly and desperate.

I prefer the innocent cuties who are too shy to chase anyone.

Depends on the luck of the draw health wise I think firstly no matter how well off you are .

 

I was extremely lucky until a couple of years ago , then the inevitable one in two of us cancer arrived followed by a year of hell treatments which then caused another major set of probs ,, however back on a better situation now , looking forward to some more time and the glass ( non alcohol ) is back half full again making the most of each day

well, had a great career, lived and worked in many great countries with a wife and daughter.  That wife passed away with cancer, daughter grew up, intelligent and has a great life now.  Second wife (Thai) came along when I least expected it, career over, married her, and we have a daughter now in college.  Greatest time of my life still - thought that same feeling before I married again so much much older now but still loving life, don't have hardly any of the worries and couldn't possibly care if folkls like me or not as I am happy and enjoy life with my family in Thailand.  I take care of my health, exercise, eat well, no drugs, or alcohol nor illnesses during my life!

yes, every person faces that from the day that they are born! No escape, just like taxes!

     I was going to answer 'No' but came up with two things for me.  1.  More free time than when I was younger and working, sometimes two jobs.   2.  More money to do things in the more free time I have.

Most people don't want to die unless they are in terrible pain and/or suffering from some severe illness.  However, most people who are in their 70s want to be 80 and most people in their 80s want to be 90.  Enjoy life while you can.

I would say that would depend on the specific person's situation.

In any case for non Elon Musk types, there is always some chance of being financially wiped out in old age and for people who no longer have any earning power it's a predictable thing to worry about.

I met this wonderful woman, she loves me, I built a house. It's all in her name but we love each other so much.

That's nit end of the world, for some an good investment, for others not so much.

 

As every other investment, you do not spend all your liquids on one "horse" only, because that would be stupid.
