Can't you work it out? Pointless having a subscription when you call a few times a year

Yeah in that case, I will work it out really quick for you. If only a couple of times a year, just use your phone with the providers promo codes for international calls. I guess it will not ruin you, if you ain´t a guy that need to turn every baht.

Skype service has taken a dive ever since MS bought the service.  I switched to Vyke and very happy with it.

Some issues now with Skype might be due to Skype is now owned by Microsoft. As the story goes, MS introduced Team as a competitor to Skype but Skype remained much more popular.  So it might be a business strategy by MS purchase of Skype to establish practices that would drive Skype users to use Team.

MS became the owner of Skype in 2011, that is 13 years ago

You do know that they bought it back in 2011 which was about 4/5 years before Teams was initially tested?

I don't disagree that they may want to try and kill it off if they can get people to move to Teams however.

Oh yeah! Sure it is. Microsoft does everything wrong. They must just do that, as most of there products and software as well as applications are top rated all over the world. Just because a few like you do not like Microsoft, does not make it true. Just make it silly!

With Skype's latest change to a monthly subscription, are you still given the option to get  a personal phone number? It appears that personal phone numbers are no longer available on Skype.

Incorrect, that won't work if you want a different phone number to be your phone ID. So far you've added nothing to this thread

A shame, I've been on Skype since it started in 2003, in the days before smart phones and social media apps it was the simplest and cheapest way to keep in touch with friends on the other side of the world. Like many people now, though, I only use it very occasionally to call my UK bank or the DWP or HMRC, so the idea of paying 325 Baht/month for a subscription makes no sense.

Is there a recommended alternative for people who only use a dedicated VOIP app very occasionally?

True.

Monthly subscriptions for making outbound calls or free Skype call to anyone anytime.

Currently I have almost $9 remaining for calls to personal numbers; most of my calls are to toll free numbers.

I used skype for years, then Microsoft bought it and it went downhill. The phone app is a pig with sluggish response on my phone. Maybe not the same for other brands of phone.

Me too. I've used Skype for at least 15 years. Skype-in local UK number and unlimited world subscription. The phone app is total shxte and should be redesigned. I hope they don't force users to cancel the Skype-in service as it's very useful for my business. I do find that with WhatsApp and LINE calling (for family and friends), I use Skype a lot less these days - call quality is better on WhatsApp and LINE.

I am in the same situation. My personal number "recharges " by deducting from my remaining balance. Be interesting to see if they allow the deduction this month and the number continues until  the credit is gone.. Do you know if we will continue to be able to call 800 numbers without a subscription?

After all that, did you test Localphone for yourself? I use it via iPhone occasionally.

If they do, there are alternatives.

Just had a look. It says; 'Skype number no longer available'. Presumably existing customers such as yourself will continue to be able to use and renew your annual subscriptions to rent your geographical landline number?

Yes, that seems to be what has happened, but there is still a problem, I have a Skype number but can no longer send SMS, only receive. Since you can't buy credits anymore there isn't any option for sending.

No one seems interested in your localphone, does it do User ID?

Who is no one? You? Your posts on this thread have been mostly misleading and unhelpful.

Find out by yourself by testing the application.

I've been a help to everyone else other than you 😊 'Pushing' Localphone as it's the cheapest and fits the bill.

Whereas you have been posting totally inaccurate information and arguing with whoever you can find. Wasn't it @Gottfrid you were arguing with here recently?

Now it's me because you are too lazy to install the application to find answers to your questions yourself.

Why not post something helpful instead of being a pain?

MY TELLO

Google it.

Good service and cheap as chips

My mate got a US Tello eSIM. All done online from Thailand. Uses the number mainly for 2FA stuff with banks and the like.

He reckons it's as cheap as French fries.

Have been using it reliably for more than ten years. 'Scam' with a free trial so you can test it for yourself without needing to top up??

Write ups via Google Code:

I think you might have some issues, arguing with everyone and behaving so childishly. If you cannot contribute intelligently, perhaps you should find a place more suitable to your talents. You are just disrupting the thread with your constant arguments and inaccurate posts.
