We stayed in a hotel the night before which was only one stop from Rama9 - the golf cart did the rest.

Similar time frame... submitted 14th October, email from UKPA approving the application (that was new) on 22nd October, back at VfS on 27th October.

Email comms from Passport Office, Bangkok HMPO and VFS all good, I'll leave them a review I think

  • Use an agent.  They copy everything, take the application in and collect it for you when it arrives.  If you live outside Bangkok it's cheaper than two round-trip flights.  Your Thai driving license h

  • That's not the point.  They want a full copy of your passport in order for you to keep hold of it in Thailand as you are legally required to do.  Other countries ignore that requirement.  Who's right

  • You CAN but you don't need to to renew a passport.

Yes, much more efficient and very friendly and helpful. The opposite of HMPO in fact.

Driving is okay, i drove 3 times in March, just the usual ball ache Bangkok traffic. A large car park under the mall.

Yes so straight forward in a car, having to get a golf cart shuttle bus from MRT not ideal, i assume Trendy building was easier to get to

Is there any use of the colour photo copy of the old passport? HMPO send it back

It is just instead of sending the passport,  VFS check all the pages against your passport, makes sense as you could be required to present your passport to the police or immigration etc for other reasons.
I don’t believe they send it back, i didn’t get offered it anyway.

Hopefully they don’t use the reverse side for some official documents !!, for a few years my 90 day in person receipt from immigration would have some random foreigner details on the back !!

They've sent me an email to say they sent the copy back to VFS for pickup, 57 pages or so, i can cancel by email if i don't want it, I don't think it's any use

They send it to HMPO.  Apart from being a complete copy no way they would trust VFS to check and interpret each page of it.

What i meant was VFS check it is all the correct copies required, HMPO check the validity.

Correct. I renewed my daughter's UK passport this year and they ALSO required a colour photocopy of every page of her Thai passport.

The VFS lady was studious enough to notice I had missed one page (they were nearly all blank pages) so they do diligently check. In the olden days they would have sent you to the ground floor to find a photocopy shop and come back, but she just photocopied the missing for me there and then (and didn't charge).

Yes best to double check all copies are there before going to VFS. I had to go back to the copy shop in Pattaya 3 times to get the correct copies

And don't forget to re-register any mobile phone SIM cards you have.

You can hold off on updating your Thai DL with the new passport number until the DL renewal date.

Yes did the AIS sim first, gave the receipt to the banks, the DL can wait another 3 years

Update any insurance coverages you have (car, motorbike, medical, travel, health, etc.) with the new passport number. Also update it when any rental contracts are being renewed.
