GB News Criticized for Extensive Focus on Muslims Amid Controversy Over Reporting

GB News has come under scrutiny following a report by the Centre for Media Monitoring (CfMM) alleging that the channel broadcasts half of all UK stories about Muslims, often portraying them negatively. The findings, described by the report as bordering on an “obsession,” have been strongly denied by the broadcaster, which called the accusations “highly defamatory.”

The report, titled *“GB News: A Snapshot of Anti-Muslim Hate”*, analyzed media coverage over a two-year period and concluded that GB News mentioned Islam or Muslims over 17,000 times, surpassing other major broadcasters. This coverage accounted for more than 50 percent of all mentions of Muslims in UK broadcast media, compared to 32 percent for BBC News and 21 percent for Sky News. The CfMM analysis also highlighted that Islamophobia was mentioned 1,180 times by GB News, often with the intent of undermining or discrediting the concept.

During this year’s UK riots, GB News featured prominently, accounting for 62 percent of clips shared on the subject. The network’s coverage reportedly focused on portraying Muslims as perpetrators of violence rather than victims, raising concerns about the potential consequences of such narratives. The report warned that the channel's approach “risks inciting violence and discrimination against Muslim communities.”

GB News has firmly rejected the report’s conclusions and criticized its methodology. A spokesperson for the channel labeled the findings “highly defamatory,” claiming that the report was part of a deliberate effort to stifle free speech. “This inaccurate and defamatory report is nothing more than a cynical, self-serving attempt to silence free speech,” the spokesperson stated. “It proves exactly why a news organization like GB News needs to exist and why it is succeeding.”

A GB News spokesman said: "This inaccurate and defamatory report is nothing more than a cynical, self-serving attempt to silence free speech.

"It proves exactly why a news organisation like GB News needs to exist and why it is succeeding. "We are concerned that at no point did this project of the Muslim Council of Britain contact GB News or its presenters to allow them to respond to these highly defamatory allegations."

According to its website, the Centre for Media Monitoring was set up by the Muslim Council of Britain in 2019 "to change the narrative surrounding Islam and Muslims" within the UK press and news broadcasters.

The UK Government has a longstanding position of not engaging with the Muslim Council of Britain due to previous leaders of the organisation having "taken positions that contradict our fundamental values" as a country.

The BBC reported that 4600 babies in the UK during 2023/24 where named Muhammad. Making it the most popular babies name in the UK.

This fact is oft repeated, but ignores the reality that the name is much more common among Muslims than other boys' names.

Boys born to white parents tend to have a much more diverse range of names, leading to this false suggestion that Muslim births are out stripping boys of white parents.

Don't whitewash the problem  BBC reported 62% of babies born in the UK last year where born to non British mothers.

The National Statistics Office says significantly different:

31.8% of all live births were to non-UK-born mothers in England and Wales (an increase from 30.3% in 2022); this continues a general increase in the percentage of live births to non-UK-born mothers.

The Islamic faith, in most areas remains unreformed, and as such is a danger to Western civilization.

It certainly is. Now hidden and disguised, but central to the Quran and to Islamic teaching throughout the middle east and mosques in Europe and the USA, is the reward of a place in heaven to any Muslim who kills an infidel eg a Christian or a Jew.

Migrants are great for the economy, and they are only doing jobs Britons refuse to do.

Legal immigration is good for the economy yes..  illegal immigration costing 8million per day does not.

The only thing that should concern anyone is whether the news channel is lying or not. If the reports are true, then what's the problem?

The BBC story is laughable, this is the kind of junk that Farage repeats and his followers accept without question, and repeat  - yes, statistically Mohammed may well be the most popular name in the UK -  it could be that the country is being over run with muslims, which isnt quite true but it also demonstrates UK residents chose their names from a wider and more diverse pool, whereas the 31% of non-UK mothers who may be muslims still chose to name their babies after the most important person in their religion. I think if you conducted this survey over the muslim world you would find a much higher percentage. In my own class register, most kids in my classes that I teach have either Mohammed or a condensed or derived form as either their first or second name.

Laughable really, just the kind of crap Tommy ten names would cite as empirical fact that the UK is being over run by muslims.

Weird how the UK had a net migration of almost 1 million last year and "achieved" growth of 0.1% in October.   How is it even possible that an extra million people barely move the needle on GDP?

Not in my or your lifetimes, but your grandkids or the kids of your grandkids will likely experience this in theirs.

The kids you mention will probably be interbred with the so called Muslims. Christians will have disappeared.

The UK will become majority muslim one day.   Not in my or your lifetimes, but your grandkids or the kids of your grandkids will likely experience this in theirs.  The unwritten rule that the current generation will hand down a better world to the next generation has been broken as once that majority is reached the UK will undoubtedly become a sharia law country and all the horrors that come along with that.   I've never understood the reveration of the left towards the most illiberal, conservative, homophobic, intolerant, violent, misogynistic group of people on the planet.

Maybe .. maybe the whole dynamic shifts, maybe it's not the UK that we know it, who knows? whatever happens has happened before, no path is really set in stone. If things had of continued, we could have all been living our lives under Cromwells Puritanical law. I have read a couple of articles suggesting the downfall of christian nations, it's quite a biased opinion. However,  Maybe in the future being a muslim nation may not be seen as such as an issue, maybe right wing politics will not exist any longer, people will not identify by their religion, they will accept people are people.I don't know or particularly care tbh.

In 2023, 31.8% of live births in England and Wales were to mothers born outside the UK. There is no statistics for non-British mothers and many of these mother's may well be British citizens....but were born outside the UK.

ONS report.
