Earlier than that, too. A race had been planned for December 1939, but other things interrupted it. See:

"Bira also planned to organise a race in his homeland, Thailand, and the inaugural Bangkok Grand Prix was set to be held on the 10th of December 1939, but the war equally destroyed those plans."

Yeah, I think you are right - mine was just a guess, I remember the story now.  I have no interest in F1 at all, but I have been reading these posts for years on various places and I was interested by the story of Prince Bira and the continued saga of the proposal. Its nothing but a money grab now.

Sorry your wrong.  🙏

Formula 1 has visited Melbourne annually since 1996, with the exception of the COVID-19 years 2020 and 2021. Despite an ongoing contract until the end of 2025, a new deal was negotiated. This was announced in June 2022, with an extension until as late as 2035.Mar 1, 2567 BE

The Australian F1 Grand Prix is on a street circuit in Melbourne.  It is run very well, but causes a lot of issues for the locals - and it costs a bomb to run.  If the (nearly) civilized West has issues running this event successfully - I seriously doubt Thailands' ability to pull this off.

Rayong would be the best location BUT does it hve the ability to handle the people and infrastucture.

Chatuchak is a good spot; however, you are closing off all buses in that area.  Access to the JJ market will be screwed, and traffic on Vibhadi Rangsit will be a  joke when it is busiest.

Not just for the race weekend but also for gearing up as they have to redo all the roads and routes.

The other catch is that the price for a ticket will be way out of the means of most people living here.

It might bring people to the city but again it is only going to benefit the 5 str hotels

The leaders only care about Bangkok when has planning making sense for these leaders come into play.

At least all the roads in the area will get completely resurfaced, will end up as the best roads in Bangkok.

You think resurfacing is the only thing needed? How about the drains in the middle of the road, or all the houses and side sois? Never gonna happen.

Re drains, I was writing metaphorically knowing Bangkok, that will be one of the biggest problems, if the F1 calendar say the race will be heled in the rainy season with Bangkok's history of flooding, they will be a lot of work to do, it is a big area to drain ,and where would the water go ?no nearby canals/rivers to take a big deluge of water from a monsoon storm, and the work would not be done overnight ,and at what cost?
