A harrowing incident occurred on board Thai Airways flight TG637 when a Thai worker returning from Taiwan reportedly became delusional and attempted to open the emergency exit mid-flight. Fellow passengers sprang into action, subduing and restraining the man until the plane safely landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

 

The alarming event was captured on video and shared by TikTok user @yao1926.new, who described the frightening experience. “I’ve been flying for over ten years, and this is the first time I’ve witnessed something like this. It was terrifying, but thankfully everyone is safe thanks to the heroes who helped control the situation.”

 

According to the post, the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs, causing him to become erratic and attempt to open the emergency door. Passengers acted quickly, restraining him with makeshift ties to his seat. Once the plane landed in Bangkok, airport security and police boarded the aircraft to take the man into custody.

 

In the video, the restrained man is seen asking officials, “Where are we now?” Upon being informed they had landed in Thailand, he claimed, “The drugs are out of my system now.”

 

The incident has raised concerns about in-flight safety and the need for vigilance among passengers and crew. Thai Airways has not yet issued a statement regarding the event.

 

The TikTok user thanked the brave individuals who intervened to prevent a potential disaster and ensured the flight’s safe arrival. “It was scary, but thanks to those heroes, the situation was brought under control, and we landed safely.”

What are you on about? The video is from after the landing, when the police came to pick him up.

Only on very low heights. Of course on the ground.

But as the report says mid flight it must be typically 10000 feet or so.

Difference between cabin pressure and low outside pressure pushes the door so strong to the fitting that no man would be able to lift it.

They are kept in place by pressure difference.

Most modern automated systems began to pressurize when weight is off the wheels.   The outflow valves, most commonly on the rear of the cabin bulkhead,  will fluctuate from open to closed to provide a cabin pressure between 6 and 8.6 psi, depending on the altitude.   Above 8.7-8.9 psi, the pressurization system goes through several safety modes to maintain the pressure below a point of bulkhead failure.  Each manufacture of commercial aircraft has slight differences with the same operating concept.

 

Aircraft doors and E-windows that are of the plug type would be extremely, if not impossible, to open at these internal pressures.  Exceptions to the plug doors would be the rear air stairs on some aircraft.  

Examples; some B727 and DC9/MD80s.  However, these airstairs had a latching system that would not open with a pressurized cabin.     Example:   DB Cooper ordered the crew to descend to 10,000 ft and depressurize the aircraft so the air stairs could be opened.

 

Some of the newer aircraft have internal mechanical pins in the window frames that are latched when the aircraft engines are operating above normal ground power settings.  Im not real familiar with this system as I retired before this system was used.

Except it is a Boeing Door, they fall out by itself.

might end with a brown underwear but in theory it is impossible to open the doors mid flight...

Turns out that was the problem .... He was off his meds. His family, who know that he is mentally ill, believes he WAS NOT taking his meds. He has a history of mental illness. But there he is on a flight.
