I better not mention what I seen thrown around when working West Africa in 1980.

these establishments often operate in murky legal territories

made murky by the authorities in charge, however, this article does not investigate those facts...

I thought this thread would be about the area west of Sukhumvit.

Same same, I was expecting it to be an advertorial for weekend breaks out at Lake Mabprachan! lol

Not a particularly interesting article it doesn't reveal anything that we didn't already know. I have a friend who cannot get a date to save his life in the US, and he comes to Thailand once a year gets on in a taxi and goes directly to pataya and spends 10 days to 2 weeks there gets as much action as possible. He never gets taken in by the stories because he has no interest in a girlfriend, he's a total mama's boy.

It happens anywhere in the world, that begins as idyllic, highly affordable and becomes commercial. Not so much the human trafficking side, moreover the pollution. It always occurs in the pursuit of money.

These hidden issues reveal both societal and environmental challenges

Just join ASEAN Now and there are many people here willing to tell sordid tales about Pattaya.

Unfortunately there are many people from the US who can tell the same story.

Most of us just want to find someone who makes us happy, is fun, and share a good time with.

The dating scene can be tough and takes a lot of time and work.  Sometimes ends up not being worth the effort.

This is proven by the fact that thousands of men come to Thailand to find a wife, girlfriend and have a good time.  Flying 20+ hours each way for a week or two of happiness before having to return home.

Usa has so many single beautiful women just waiting for the right man , you have to try harder, go out to bar's,  loiter at hardware stores, I know there is a stack of them that want to go on a singles cruise and are willing to pay their own way, beats flying to patts.

Pattaya has long been infamous for its sex tourism industry. Go-go bars, massage parlours, and adult venues punctuate the cityscape, contributing significantly to the local economy.

....I thought there was no sex industry or prostitution in Pattaya??

That's always been the official line, hasn't it?

Or is someone telling porky pies?

Pattaya’s beaches, once idyllic, now suffer from pollution and environmental neglect.

I wonder when that "idyllic" time was.... Must have been pre-1990! Because I remember talk of the polluted beaches regularly since then. Before that, I have no idea. But reading this article, I'd guess that they were "idyllic" until just recently, not in the distant past....

Must be fake news.... I've heard otherwise.

More troubling are sporadic reports of street violence and altercations among inebriated tourists, which tarnish the city’s hospitable image.

Rather one-sided.
