I's well known amongst peasantry that most golfers like playing with holes. On the serious note, answer to the OP, you can live on 20.000 THB monthly as you described but keep in mind that you have to have some kind of visa and most importantly HEALTH Insurance that would add to the cost of living.

We actually do quite well on 20k a month, but we are all bought in, w/solar also, and that saves about 5k a month.

 

Without being bought in, owning everything, then 10k for rent & utilities, that allows about 300 a day for food, so eating good shouldn't be  problem.

 

BUT ... that's about it.  A decent survival.  Anyone thinking about that life, stay home and enjoy your safety net, when you have an oops.

 

But OP is rich, so he shouldn't have any problem.

Do they use Bolt or Grab?

Can you live on 20k, I have worked out I will only have 20,000 baht a month to live on 

Apart from your financial needs for a permission to stay – i.e. visa and extensions of stay – yes, you can live a modest life in Thailand if your own your home and has a simple life-style, which still can be a good life due to weather conditions etc.

 

If you can cook yourself and don't eat huge amounts of food, you can live for 200 baht a day. Even eating out is possible for a few hundred baht a day , if you choose local food from street kitchens, markets or modest restaurants.

 

Me, I only eat one major meal a day and make an excellent mainly Western-style supper for in average 200 baht per day including a glass of wine or two, and some fruit or a bisquit during the day...😋 I could easily afford (much) more, but I don't need to, I'm happy with my life-style and rather spend my extra money on something else.

 

If you find the right area, where you don't need aircon – or much aircon – and avoid real cold periods, your electric bill can be less than 1,000 baht per month, less if you don't cook meals yourself usin electric power.

 

Your major concern – if you own a home and have modest expenses for that – is health. Healt insurance can be quite expensive depending of age and level of coverage. If your health is good – I would say: That is a must for a 20k baht budget – and you can settle with public hospital service, you might find a health insurance in the level around 3,000 baht to 4,000 baht per month.

 

So, to break down some kind of monthly budget:

6,000 baht for 200 baht per day food

1,000 baht for electricity

1,000 baht for communication (Internet/mobile)

4,000 baht for health (either insurance or savings for self-insured)

 

That leaves you with 8,000 baht for home fees/maintenance and other stuff you need or now and then dining out in a little more expensive place, to enjoy a happy life...

It don't make much deference where you live, if your accommodation is already sorted.

it's what you do that takes the money.

You will need a small motor bike,  and don't listen to the fairies on here about bikes.

I worked with money obsessed ethnic chinese in BKK, and for years I'd learn ho to live on 15K in rented condo. Easy-peasy!

PS: not because I didn't have more money to spend, but because that cult of saving anything you can.

   Why would you want to live in Pattaya if you aren't going to get involved with nightlife there ?

   As you won't be drinking  ,whoring or eating Western food , you may as well go and live in a cheaper Thai town

When you get to the age of some of us, health insurance is impossible. Keep a stash on one side for that.

Or have a few high limit Credit Cards available.

Don't talk silly. There are LONG waiting times here in my University Hospital, but I eventually get what need sorted out for a very reasonable price, both treatment and meds.

Yes. My house is 150sq meters. I run 5 aircons. We eat out every meal. We go on vacations monthly. Drive a gas guzzler. Easy peazy.
