End of Non O 1 year extension to stay - is there any leeway?

Featured Replies

Apologies if this is a silly question, but at the end of a one year extension to stay (non O Thai family) are you required to leave on the day the extension to stay runs out, or is there a 7 day grace period?

I thought you had to be out on the day it expired to avoid overstay, but a visa agent just mentioned that you have a further 7 days - just wondering if that is correct or not?

Thanks in advance.

OP, there is no grace period.

You would be on overstay.

The 7 day agent mentioned is not a grace period .

You could apply for extension knowing it will be rejected and immigration will stamp 7 days to exit Thailand.

For clarity: do you want to end your current stay.

Planning to return to home country?

If it's to buy time you could obtain 60 day extension to visit wife if have not obtained one previously

Ah, that's what he meant, thank you.

I'm actually changing extension type from Non O family to Non B (I already have work permit etc) but for one reason or another it's all a bit last minute.

Anyway, that 7 days will buy me the time I need in case there are any issues.

All good, thanks again.

Why do you want to change to NonB if you qualify for Non-O family extension? Your work Permit is ok with either Non-O or Non-B; I have a Non-B and work Permit several Years in a row now, extended in Pattaya and Udon Thani.

Be aware that it is "7-days to leave the country" - so will not be able to switch to another type of extension in-country, after taking that option.

OP take note of post above from Rob.

Basically no dealings with immigration in the 7 days. Pack bags and get out of dodge.
