Extending 60-day visa exemption pass in Chiang Mai
Thanks, Greenwich Boy. I got my 30-day extension from the Central Festival immigration office this afternoon. I arrived at 3.00 pm and was out by 3.50 pm. I would have left sooner had the girl at the front desk not quibbled over my photograph saying I no longer looked the same and insisted that I take a new one. The photograph that I had given her was the same as the one used in my passport, taken about 6 months ago. My hair has grown by about 6 cm since then but I look pretty much the same. She insisted that "your hair now long, you take new photo." So I quickly pulled up my hair and tied it in a bun, showing my face without any obstruction whatsoever. She wasn't convinced and repeated, "Your hair now long, you take new photo." I gave up and went across the corridor to have new passport pics taken. Four pics for 150 Baht. The girl at the front desk was happy with the new photograph. I don't know what I'm going to do with the other three pics. They won't be accepted in my home country as I was wearing a white blouse against a white background but apparently a head without a torso is perfectly acceptable in Thailand. 😅 Anyway, all's well that ends well. Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions. By the way, the documents required were exactly as DrJack described. The TM7 form can be obtained there. -

You know this for a fact? Some pensions not taxable in home countries ARE taxable in Thailand. Deductions and allowances in foreign tax systems are not recognized by Thailand. 0% tax brackets in other countries may not correspond to Thai tax brackets. Income that has passed through other tax systems with zero tax liability may be assessable and taxable by Thailand. Income taxed at lower rates will have tax due here, despite already paying once. I have US$60K in long term capital gains, zero tax due because of IRS 0% LTCG bracket. What's my tax on 2 million baht remitted, and where's my tax credit to offset the $10,000 tax due? -

Thank you. I don't disagree with your stance. However, I would say it is the function of governments to ensure people have good information. The CSIRO in Australia is our leading scientific organization. It does a lot of cutting edge work, including fire research. One of the studies it produced after Ash Wednesday said when people stayed behind to fight fires, they were 90% successful in defending their property. The study did have quite a few caveats in terms of preparedness, house construction, and fire-fighting methods. As regular as clockwork, leftist governments increase CSIRO's budget. When right wing governments get in, they set about slashing CSIRO's funding. It's currently in the right-wing opposition's bad books. Said opposition are taking a policy of small-size nuclear power plants to the next election. CSIRO have given the policy a raspberry. Nuclear power is the most expensive form of electricity on the planet, solar and wind are the cheapest. Australia has plenty of both. Who will win, facts or policy? -

400.000 Baht disappeared, a story of BKK Bank, SCB and Advice IT
My credit card number was recently stolen and two fraudulent purchases using it were made. My US bank flagged the charges as questionable. When I noticed charges as pending on my account, I called the bank. My card was cancelled and the two charges will be refunded to my account. My credit card was never out of my hands. Before those fraudulent charges, I had made an online purchase to iHerb when my VPN wasn’t running. IHerb wouldn’t complete the purchase. I was logged into my hotel Internet and believe that the card number was stolen through the hotel network at that time. I might have been asked to verify that I was human but can’t remember for sure. I now verify that my VPN is active before I do any financial business on my iPad.
