Would like to descale my coffee machine but I haven't seen any products in my travels so far in Hua Hin.

 

Could someone pease point me in the right direction?

Not sure what kind of machine you have. Mine is Dolce Gusto Drop from Krups, and they had this available at the time when I purchased it:

 

 

Got it in Thailand but not sure if it's still available here.

 

I see HG has generic descalers, which might be worth to try.

But it really depends on what kind of machine you have. If you read their manual, they'll likely have a part on descaling and what can be used for it.

Thanks for the reply, and that looks like it would do the job too. My machine is a Minimex, and they don't mention in the manual an actual product to descale with, just a generic 'descaler'.

 

I was going to try white vinegar, but apparently while it does do the descale job it can cause problems with aluminium parts, so not a solution really.

 

I was hoping to buy something from a local shop though, as I would prefer not to go the Lazada/Shopee route if possible 

The powder in powdered descaler is citric acid.  It's a lot cheaper if you can find it.

vinegar will do it, if you cant find a product in the stores. just fill the machine with vinegar and let it sit for an hour or so and flush it real good and your ready to go

I've heard using vinegar as a descaler can cause issues with aluminium parts

Ive done it for years and never had any problems. It should be any harsher than the chemicals they sell to do the same thing. Citric acid is far more caustic than vinegar

Thanks, I'll have a walkaround Hua Hin and see what I can turn up

Bon cafe sell some coffee machine cleaning tablets, not sure if its descaling though. You can check online.

It is also possible to use citric acid only which is the main content of descaler. The citric acid can also be ordered from Lazada. In my experience the descaler is slightly more effective.

Here  ( on the other side of the world ) I use diluted 10% vinegar ( roughly 15 parts water to one part vinegar ).    'tis grand altogether just dont be in a rush. Been doing it for years,

Yes, every few months I buy descaler powder (for the main machine - Minimex) and tablets for the (never used) coffee powder function. Both from Bon Cafe here in Muaeng Surin and very cheap.

Try a fruit stall. It comes in yellow eggy shaped soft packages.

I recommend Citric Acid.

 

I actually use swimming pool hydrochloric acid, it's 35% strength and I dilute it additionally 10 to 1.  I don't recommend you use it unless you know what you are doing.
