60 day marriage extension

Featured Replies

Hi all I have come to Thailand on a visa exemption and was given 60 days I have been to immigration to extend by another 30 day can I extend this by another 60 days as I have a thai wife or was this only allowed before the new 60 day visa exemption

OP, you can obtain 60 day extension to visit wife.

As usual there are few immigration offices that may have issue. As pointed out in attached thread.

Which immigration office?

Wife must attend immigration also.

In thread above my first post has link to thread and comments from ubonjoe. Here is one ...

"Chaeng Wattana immigration has issued the 60 day extension of a tourist visa and visa exempt entry after the 30 day extension of them were issued.. More than one report about it."

So yes it's possible. You should obtain the 30 day extension first.

I am in udon thani and they have told me that I can not do the 60 day marriage extension as I had the new  60 day exemption when I arrived I can only extend this by 30 days and must do a border run when this is up

Well you have your answer already.

As I stated in my first post....

If Udon Thani immigration stated they won't do it then they won't do it.

Easy drive from Udon Thani to Nong Khai for border bounce.

Be aware that they currently making you stay 1-2 nights.

Consider minivan agent.

I got the 60 day  extention last year so I know it is possible but now because of the new 60 day exemption when I first arrived I can not get the thai spouse 60 day extension I would like to know of anyone who has tried to do this or am I the only one. as for your link this refers back to when you only got 30 days on arrival not 60 days as of now

Bottom line is your immigration office has told you that they will not issue you 60 day extension to visit wife.

Move to another plan.

Legally, it is possible to come in on a visa-exempt, then get a 30-days tourist-extension, then get the 60-days wife-extension after that.  But there is no enforcement of consistent rules at immigration offices in Thailand, so whatever the head-honcho at your office "says" is de-facto the effective "rules."
