maybe it's just my impression, but I don't see the police doing roadblocks anymore, day or night.

second road and thepprasit have become a racetrack for big bikes without mufflers. the government is selling off Thailand and its people to the highest bidder

Yeah, Tepprasit is hell. Unfortunately it has some of my favourite hangouts. It's not foreigners so much as young Thais on their rocket machines blasting along full throttle deafening everyone. Catch them at the lights, what can you do? Just don't get triggered.

I'm not normally a big fan of Russian tourists or people in general however this sounds tragic RIP just a couple romantically walking when some idiot blew the lights

I live right there. This was the second accident in 1 hour. Every time you cross the street you are worried about all these crazy people driving at 100-150 km/h when there are 100 meters to the traffic light. People come here to disconnect from all the stress at home and then you have to worry about all the crazy people driving 200 km/h.

From the initial post it sounds like the bike rider is typical young <deleted> renting a big bike to look cool. How devistating to lose your husband while innocently crossing a road,

My condo overlooks Jomtien 2nd Rd.  The Rimhad Condominium crosswalk on 2nd Rd. has a stoplight but both motorcycles and cars routinely just blow through the red light.    Big Bikes use Jomtien Beach Rd as their own Bira Circuit all day and all night.  Even on these nice cool nights, I have to tightly close my 10th floor balcony doors to lessen the sound of screaming motorcycles racing up 2nd Rd, then making a U-Turn and racing back down.  I have gotten so I can recognize certain bike hat are regular offenders and predict where they will U-turn and come back.  No police enforcement whatsoever.

I wish it had been the biker that lost his life rather than the pedestrian.

thats not very nice to say

If I were one of the victims, and still able to get up, I would have walked over and placed my foot on his neck until he stopped breathing.

what a lovely person you are

It's the ONLY time CCTV is consulted: AFTER an event.

Do you want them to show what's going to happen?

Jomtien Second Road is a racetrack for these Russian ( most ARE Russian) Big Bike Renters..Penniless Russians? Nope..1000+Baht/Day. They have been racing up and down that road for months now.. long straitaways... I hear them every night! Sad for the couple...

I always think back to the gruesome accident where a Russian on a big bike, basically sliced himself in half by hitting a road sign on Jomtien Second Rd. The bikers here will dissent but I feel larger bikes should not be rented out to tourists on an IDP. They have little need of big CC. Just accommodate those wanting to tour.....

99% sure Russian "big biker".

Bitter irony.

Russian tourist coming to Thailand to be killed on the road by another Russian.

Put these in pairs 100 meters apart all along the beach road and speeding would be difficult and lives saved.

BUT.....

You mention it.

What irresponsible idiots build flat wide race tracks through densely populated areas.

Absolutely no need.

Be it 2nd rd in this case.

Beach Rd is often too busy.

Another example where the country is 50 years behind.

When traffic is dense the racing is over anyway.

But beware of the night.

Is it too much to expect a police force to view speedsters/red-light runners then arrest them?  This way, laws are enforced and even Thai drivers learn good habits.

Many of them are sons of corrupt government officials in their home country. They have a lot of money they have stolen from their state.

Stop Visa Free Entry for Citizens of Russia, Kazakhsatan, China, etc.jpg

That is total nonsense. There is a huge middle economy in places like Russia that nobody in the west ever admits exist. There are millions of normal middle class Russians that make their living in the private sector

Sadly that is a very risky thing to do, pedestrians should have triple checked it was clear

Yeah. Never stop if the flow of traffic is ignoring them anyway. If there's a break in the traffic and you are one of the first cars, then stop for them.

The moto rider is a complete idiot too. Anytime you see a car stop on the road, you slow TF down and verify why they are slowing

The pedestrians also must be attentive and if you see something, just run or at least be prepared to dodge something.

Easy and cheap to put a stop to irresponsible speeding but the outcry from motorists would prevent it.

and what about the emergency vehicles in life or death situations? These speedbumps are only there because the police will not do their jobs and get out of their offices and catch these speedsters.
