Thai Authorities Nab 17 Foreigners in Island Immigration Raids

Featured Replies

I have absolutely no sympathy with low life Rif Raffs or dangerous vicious (foreign) criminal gangs feeding on, and harming the innocent.

But feel in a different way for those Illegal Workers not committing any common crimes other than immigration violation here.

Some are forced into the situation where they had to flee home countries.

Because of the war,  persecution, scarcity of job prospect while willing to work...ended up as the victims of circumstances.

I noticed something while reading about those Illegal Aliens busted while working without permit in this kingdom.

They often find their living space in a rather Niche Market(=field), not covered by others(or having  shortage of the labor).

Not much of a sweep then. If they only found 17 individuals, then they are not even scratching the surface of the issue.

This report sounds like a RTP propaganda bulletin... dreadful waste of police time...

  • Wow, 17 illegal foreigners. In the US. about 11 million now, depending on the source of information. But it made the news here, and the authorities take these numbers seriously.

You could probably find more than they caught by just scanning the local Facebook groups and seeing people offering services for all sorts .

I see a lot of FB posts of people looking for work especially in Pai Backslacker Hippietown. If they really wanted to enforce this in Pai they'd end up removing half the town's population, who are contributing little or nothing to the local economy

A very perceptive and insightful comment, for a change. I see it the same way - victimless "crimes" by desperate people, who would do it legally if they could.

How about making a serious clean sweep of Soi 11, Soi Nana & Sukhumvit rd etc...and cleaning up all the Nigerians who are constantly selling frugs on behalf of ????

Yes, they have to show that they are working and getting rid of a grain of sand every now and again, while they keep lining their pockets from their agent friends who give them a nice cut of their fee to get that stamp after the money is deposited and withdrawn by the agent.

I would be nervous if I didn't have the funds in the bank and used an agent to get me that stamp for an annual fee of about 20k baht (varies), just sayin.

Why sink the boat when you can throw a few souls overboard.

You have to dig deep for that comment   Some are simply too smart to pass up interest back home.

Thank you for your kind reply.

This whole world has both Good and Bad Guys, among  any counties/colors/majority and minority groups.

Same applies to the illegals; certainly in their Human Qualities.

But the laws often don't take account of that factor.

While some few countries give illegal aliens a chance(in case of being a Model Citizen).

I have heard US immigration act have some remedy clause:

Cancellation of Removal(spared from deportation and made eligible to apply for Permanent Residency).

Conditions:

If the Illegal Entrants/Overstayers have stayed there for 10 years during which

they have continuously worked and lived in the law abiding manner(no offences).

After my settlement here, I started feel we are very fortunate.

Born in the country of strong economy.

Brought up with sufficient level of education.

Paid salary/wages in the wealthy country's currency...

What first world people take for granted, is often a kind of luxury to others on the other side of the world.

The very first start line of life is determined by sheer luck; where we are born.

Often makes all the differences throughout the life...

Indeed... different.

In Thailand, immigration is the subsidiary body of the Royal Thai Police.

So those in uniform at immigration office all over the kingdom, are all cops.

There is one thing I am puzzled with.

They are sometimes in  brown uniform(criminal police's).

But on a different day, they(same people) are in black(administrative police's).

Does anyone know why?

They are supposedly 2 separate organizations though.

Times must be changing. I remember in the early 2000's when I was a diving instructor on Kow Tow we were well warned that a immigration raid was coming. However, a very crooked man who did visa passport runs for 2,000baht decided he could have a stamp made and cut out immigration! Until!!! A friend "Mini me" the Dutch man got stopped leaving the country with all these forged stamps in his passport. He was locked up, massive fine and bared from Thailand (fine and legal costs paid by his employer on Kow Tow). When I arrived back on Kow Tow, there was the old Thai Guy, sitting at his shop, sign still up "Visa Run 2,000baht" as if nothing had happened! Dozens of dive masters, instructors had to destroy their passports and go to their embassies for replacements.  Mind you I had a great night in Bangkok after meeting up with them.

Absolutely right. Just look at Facebook ads, and in local groups, on these islands. Selling land, houses, renting condos, motorbikes, cars, offering cleaning, training, and other services. Of course some are legit businesses, many are not. Would not take a lot of police work to find dozens more.  A crackdown only means most of the time we don't care though.

They've been coming into countries since time began. Every country gets immigrants, including here. How would what I say make me wrong? That's your opinion, and it's  wrong. There are reasons people come into the US, here and many other countries, and I listed two, with work being another major one. Nothing wrong with people looking outside their border for work. Doing it with a proper work permit is the way. Rich people hiring these immigrants, or well off doing the same, is the real problem, as without pay most wouldn't be coming, besides those seeking asylum. Again, it's best to sticking with comments based on facts and not assuming you know what goes on in other countries. Looking at a few videos and making judgements doesn't work, as it's usually just other's opinions and if not, only shows a fraction of hat goes on in immigration.

You know, I stick with facts like this, and then a dream of that being implemented in Thailand.
