The internet use to be a great source of correct and proper information.

Sadly,  crooks, thieves and scammers have moved in and now nothing can be believed or considered correct.

 

Honestly,     this world is such a dismal place when you can't even accept the information for your school project as being honest.

The world is full of scammers ....  and it's about time the governments got serious about it.

We will see when back in Norway. Think it is time to pull the plug and start reading books again. Real hardcover books.

I agree with the problem of lots of false information.

 

I think most of the time we don't need accurate information on short notice. It would be good if we get them, but not tragic if we don't get them.

Everything we see on the internet or TV or written somewhere is maybe correct and maybe not. This is what we should always have in mind. We read or see a plane crashed. And then we hear x people died. And the reason for the crash was x. Is all that correct? Maybe. Probably a plane crashed. Just now or some time ago? Not sure. Did rescue operations find already z dead people? Or do they just assume all are dead? And does anybody after a few hours really know why it happened? Speculation, maybe, guesses. But facts?

 

With some things I just wait. I.e. with that plane crash in DC, let's read the news in a week or two. Then the information will be likely a lot more accurate than now.

And check the news on different sources.

 

I think the biggest giveaway for incorrect information is always when people are totally one-sided. Trump is to blame for everything. Or Trump has always good ideas. No! There is extreme seldom black and white. There is a lot of grey. And when people behave like they know everything and for them the world is black and white then we should realize that we can't trust these people. Move on! Watch or read what others say.

Who remembers when John Profumo was forced to resign from the British ministry for lying to Parliament in 1963? How likely is that now?

 

The response to facts on the internet is ad hominem attacks. Or assertions without evidence, which can be dismissed without evidence.

 

Freedom of speech on the internet has resulted in some influencers being able to disseminate misinformation and hate, with no checks on them.

 

Governments should do something about it? They are among the worst offenders.

1. Which government should get serious about it? Murikkka? The new regime is the master of lies and coverups, and the two billionaire Ministers of Truth (circa: Orwell 1984) have openly declared facts no longer matter.

 

2. Where can you get legitimate info? Fox? MSNBC? While Fox has been proven to be the leader at spreading misinformation, MSNBC is a close second, and most networks parrot these two to feed the poisonous narrative their viewers WANT to absorb, NOT report unbiased facts.

 

3. Search engines - Google? DuckDuckGo? The manipulation of search results is now common knowledge so they can't be trusted. I have yet to find a decent search engine that returns trustworthy results consistently. Case in point - Biden made a claim that people were paying $400/month for their insulin. Damned if I could find anything to refute or verify that statement. I entered a very simple question: "How much did insulin cost in 2022?" Results: LOTS of mudslinging at Biden or the other guy depending on which way the site leaned.

 

I firmly believe we will not see a solution in our lifetimes. Division of the populace is too important to governments (which are really just fronts for Big Business) to maintain a firm grip. Flooding the internet with garbage fits too nicely into their plans.

The internet is a huge place where anyone can access and give their opinions on anything. Some are there to spread lies and rumors for their own hatred or agendas. Some are there to put things up to help others, like Wikipedia and WebMD. Some are there to brag about accomplishments and some to show others funny things to spread the fun. It's always best to go to known sites where facts are put there for a reason, to help. Researching a few different websites to see if they correspond is always better than taking the word of just one. Just like going to different doctors for other opinions, even if they're supposed to be educated ones. Just as reading is usually the best way to get information, albeit from a trusted source, instead of listening to just one's opinion on a subject.

Going back to the caveman days, society has always been rife with lies, rumour, innuendo, mistruths, falsehoods, and jungle-drums and Chinese-whispers etc.  It's called "the human condition".

 

I guarantee you that if mankind had never developed the ability to speak or create the written word, we would be telling lies in sign language.

 

The first published lies were probably done on a stone tablet. The internet, therefore, is merely the re-creation of the stone tablet.

There is many great sources for information on internet, but at once something goes against your belief, I se many are quick to call it out as lies and biased without even trying to digg deeper, and if try, go to there trusted biased sources instead. Often quasi science, articles and news channels to support their beliefs

That's why it's always wise to go by trusted resources and not opinions. Even scientists can be challenged as they also have their own agendas beyond just the facts.

Just found out in recent days, after doing some technical research for a client who in this social media and mobile game, that for some strange reason almost all platforms allow unverified sign ups when they use random 'proxy pools' which is like a VPN for the less technical amongst us. This allows them to spam insane amounts on all platforms for X days or weeks until their accounts get banned again.

All this makes like zero sense from a algo programming perspective to fend off such bots and it was a conspiracy since like 2016-2017 of the 'dead internet theory' to state that these social media platforms willingly allow it and up to 60% traffic is bots to generate more ad revenue. 

Then add on the developments with AI today, these comments and posts will soon look as real as real ones, one does not even know what it reads anymore. You could think to read a recent experience of a person in Laos while it was just AI. And that's innocent.

 

Like if you would want to create a real new identity, it usually would require a brand new phone with a sim card as well, as they else simply detect it is an alias of yourself. It makes no sense to then have that loophole.

 

They sell <deleted>ty bots and the like to automate this further and then essentially milk people to go to either silly dropshipping websites, only fans website or whatever else could skim a few dollars of you. This while the big giant platforms earn on the users and traffic boost of it regardless too + it makes ads more expensive.

 

Anyway, I guess that is why I stopped using it since like 5 years myself already. Is like the entire world became a scammer, they scam using fake profiles with cooperation of onlyfans models, they sell you products on webshops for 100% the price and so the list goes on and on.
