Vehicle Insurance is easy in Thailand. First I would guess that your auto dealership will make an effort to have you re-new next year with them. I had great service with "insurance in Thailand" and I viewed a great web site for " e insure Thailand" Do a google search or through this forum and you can find good information from both of these English speaking brokers who both have good web sites, physical offices, telephone numbers and will give you a quote via e-mail. My experience was that each year my premium went down since my Fortuner was worth a bit less and I had no claims. I was able to pay for insurance via a credit card at no surcharge from the broker or a very modest fee to deposit cash and pay at a Thai bank they hold a Bank account.

I would renew in plenty of time for you to obtain the proper "decals" back via the postal mail so you can show this or other "proof of insurance" for whomever goes to renew your "road tax" at a government office. I was more than happy to have the auto dealership take care of the trip to the government office to obtain the annual paid road tax decal. Everyone has their own "threshold of pain and amount of potential risk" they ponder when considering the outlay for insurance. I could be wrong, but I was told that insurance rates (for same level of coverage) are perhaps set by the Department of Insurance. There was a good article in the Bangkok Post a few months ago that gave some valid clues on real legitimate savings possible when you place or renew vehicle insurance. If you check the web sites of those two brokers you will have a direct source of information in English and contacts who understand and can respond in English.

I found the “free” insurance when I bought my CRV was not free – it’s very expensive. I see AA Insurance has been mentioned in the health insurance section and very good they are. They showed me the different premiums and how, by saying no to the free insurance from Honda, I could save money with a lower price paid for the car. Again Wanna shines through :o
