bamgkok versus Seoul for medical tourism?

Featured Replies

Subject says it all.

I am returning to Vancouver from Thailand and could do so through Seoul, *if* the value (after factoring in higher prices of accommodation and meals) merits the stopover.

Just 3-4 cardiac tests, maybe some minor cosmetic surgery also. Nothing emergency. Prices for optional medical services in Canada are less appealing

I like bamgkok

Seriously, I don't know that the OP can get a valid answer from posters on AN who have actually done both or even run the numbers to compare.  That's a question for the interwebs.  I'm sure there are websites that do just that kind of comparison.  But I'm not sure I'd trust their (probably paid) recommendations.

Besides, too many variables. Details about the actual work to be done, tolerance for waiting (as in gub'ment vs private hospital), etc.  Plus, how much recovery time at hotel and food rates.

I love visiting Seoul but just staying there is much spendier than visiting Bamgkok.  Hospitals?  Not a clue here...

Personally, I would never choose the " cheapest" place for heart tests or plastic surgery.  I would have to think Seoul would be a much better choice due to technology, training and reputation

but probably more expensive. Thailand medical seems way overrated.

But have you ever had multiple medical, dental or other wellness procedures done in Bangkok? For the last decade I have tended to get all the above in Malaysia or Vietnam rather than Thailand. But Bangkok is very convenient because I am here for other reasons (storage pit stop). Korea is a bit of an excursion and a novelty. My expectation is that the standard is almost certainly higher at nominally higher price because Seoul is the epicenter of high end medical tourism. I do not know if the Englush fluency will be better than Thailand. It cannot be worse.

My wishlist

Priority #1...

CIMT (Carotid ultrasound)

Priority #2...

Calcium score

Priority #3...

CCT (cardiac computer tomography)

Priority #4...

Coronary catheterization / angiogram/angiography

Priority #5...

Lower blepharoplasty

Due to down time and cost of accommodation, I will likely do only 1-2, maybe 3 also (with a 'bad' report of #3 I can get #4 for free on Canada - if willing to wait in queue)

Korea is actually cheaper. Not kidding.

That's what I figured might be the case - due to competitiveness within the domestic market. 20% less? I must look into prices at individual hospitals/clinics, compare hotel/Air BnB then run the numbers.

but staying is more expensive because of their continuing racist behavior towards foreigners

They won't evel let you register for delivery services like grab unless you have a tax number
