Phuket Adventure Ends Badly for Bag-Snatching Aussies

The incidents took place last Wednesday, 19th February, prompting swift action by local law enforcement. The first victim, a foreign tourist, reported her bag was snatched while she stood outside a convenience store on Soi Samakkhi 4, around 9.30pm on Tuesday, 21st February. Her belongings, including a mobile phone and personal documents, were taken as two thieves sped away on a motorcycle. A similar theft occurred just an hour later; this time, a different tourist fell victim outside a massage shop near Rawai Beach. Here too, a mobile phone was the target. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, police identified the getaway vehicle as a white and red Honda PCX, rented by 25-year-old Sam, a visiting Australian. Further investigations led officers to Sam and his 36-year-old girlfriend, Susan, both identified as the perpetrators. A raid on their accommodation today yielded vital evidence, including the motorcycle and the clothing worn during the crimes. Charged under Section 336 of the Criminal Law, the couple now faces serious consequences for the thefts, with penalties including up to five years' imprisonment and a significant fine. Utilising a motorcycle in the commission of the crimes could see their sentence enhanced. As I have said many times in the past, myself, also some friends of mine, and some members of AN, have posted it's not about making money, or affordability. It's about not having 800k baht tied up in a 3rd World Country where it earns a pittance, and for the privilege, you have to queue at immigration and deal with Thai officials. Also, it's a lot more than a few thousand baht. The interest on 800k baht in my home country is around 40,000 baht, and the agent charges no where near this. I could move the money here tomorrow if I wanted to. It just makes no economic sense to do so. Risk v Reward. To cover my a** I bring in more than 65,000 baht each month anyway. It's funny how members "scaremonger" those using visa agents with visions of crackdowns, then claim to be "scaremongered" in relation to posts on the tax threads. -

Why is AI so goddam awful?
Definitely different engines and depending on the engine different styled results will be returned the most common ones being chatGPT which offers several models that can return results faster but maybe less accurate or up to date on the smaller models and some that are specifically aimed at different subjects like coding. I have been setting up local AI's like deepseek and others using ollama and open-webui which essentially look and act the same as chatGPT with my favourite bonus all your questions if any are sensitive are not stored on someone else's server, to run some of the larger models to get true chatGPT results and performance you would quite an expensive computer, however most of the mid range models will run happily on a PC with a decent graphics card. -

I really wish people wouldn't post AI summaries. They are long winded and useless and we can all ask Gemini/Grok/Perplexity. Also no vouching for the accuracy of anything they come up with.
