You have obviously never been to the temple string tying event. Everyone wears them to welcome the new year. The hard part is finding cotton instead of nylon.

Been to more temples than I can remember. No Hawaiian shirts.

I like Hawaiian shirts, but not all of them.  Tommy Bahama can be good, but they tend to run a little large and aren't exactly cheap.  Anyway, while some Hawaiian shirts are ridiculous, others have class.  I wear them once in a while in Pattaya, more often when I'm traveling.  Merino wool shirts are also good.  They don't absorb sweet and odors, and you can wear them anywhere any time.

In any event, I don't buy into the notion that they're just for Songkran.

They used to make Hawaiian shirts them with Japanese rayon, or 'old rayon', & a fine weave. Very few companies do anymore as it wrinkles easily, doesn't last as long as other synthetics. However one reason they were, and are, popular. It feels good against the skin, it feels good against the skin in hot weather. Jams World still uses it, but for every good shirt design they come out with, they put out fifteen, which look like a unicorn threw up on it. 😬 I gave up with them.

Understated Hawaiian is not bad though. TIT.

Beach goers normally wear t-shirts.

Somewhere in storage, I've got a few of the old Rayon shirts. I wouldn't call them typical "Hawaiian," but ore like something out of the 50s.  The ultimate cool, though, at least back in the 70s at the beach in Southern California, were  old, Hawaiian silk shirts.  You could pay big money for some of the ones with class.  Even today, I think you can find those, if you look.

There are exceptions of course. Females don't sweat. They glow. I wouldn't know about the inbetweeners and don't intend to find out.😉

Do you wear them?

No. Only farangs from Australia wear them in Thailand, Susan.

A few of my more colorful print shirts, below, none from Hawaii 🙄

One color dress shirts, boring, and no, I'm not Amish.  Expess one's self.

Remember if you wore something 'colorful' back in the day, 70s or 80s, people thought you were gay.   I used to love to keep them wondering, and got too many unwanted smiles from dudes.

One buddy of mine got all bent out of shape, as I was wearing a pink (coral) colored shirt when we were headed out somewhere, and didn't want people to think we were an item.   Too funny

It's the Tim Newton effect, he wears some awful shirts, one or two decent ones as well

When I came to Thailand this time, I didn't bring many clothes at all.  Just some Merino Wool T-shirts, some shorts, some cotton sweat pants, and a bunch of jogging shoes.  All the "Hawaiian" type shirts I've ordered since then I ordered from Amazon (the Tommy Bahama shirts). I also have one Quicksilver shirt I bought at Central Festival that has sort of a restrained Hawaiian look.  Not too obnoxious.

Anyway, wIMG_0567.jpeg.adb2a4000bdd542fe83e525ec15fa678.jpeghat I found is that notIMG_0563.jpeg.5b695fe6c4149ebf06208116fcdcf869.jpegIMG_0569.jpeg.a7e657838d65bb99c53253fc66b85754.jpegIMG_0569.jpeg.a7e657838d65bb99c53253fc66b85754.jpeg all Tommy Bahama XL shirts are created equal.  The dark blue one here says XL. but it fits OK.  The Flowery one is supposedly the same size, but is way too large for me.  I'll probably never wear it.  I also bought a few plain dark blue Tommy Bahama silk shirts, but I don't know how to classify those.

I did comment on Tim's website TNT if some of his shirts were made with offcuts from a curtain maker.🙂

No, too American for me. If they are worn with a baseball cap it would be formal dress code for an American.

I break mine out when I want to be like Palmer Luckey or Tim Newton.  Once a month maybe.  Kinda brings the retired, no cares, beach life mindset to the forefront of thoughts.

As do I - almost all second hand from market stalls. And I wear them year round.

Love Hawaiian shirts.

I especially favor them with cargo shorts and Tevas.

Haters always gonna hate.

Like the man said "I'm gonna let my freak flag fly".

Love finding a cool Hawaiian shirt in a market stall.

Makes me feel like Indiana Jones finding an ancient artifact.
