U.S. State Dept to Use AI to Revoke Visas of Foreign Students with Alleged Ties to Hamas

Living in the USA if you are foreign is a privilege not a right. A visa doesn't guarantee entry but it allows you to appear at a port of entry and ask for permission to enter. The notion that you may be showed the door if you engage in an unsavory and possibly illegal behavior isn't unusual. Nobody can take from you your human rights to say stupid things, however a visa to be here isn't a human right.

Nevertheless, once in the U.S. the individual has rights protected by the Constitution, amongst which are those under the 1st Amendment and the right to justice.

Much hangs on the term ‘possible illegal behavior’.

Irrelevant. Nothing to do with 1st Amendment issues to get this scum out of the US. Off you go again with your defense of the indefensible.

And contrary to disingenuous critics, such a move poses no First Amendment problems.

Ah, good word -- hangs. I'd much prefer hanging to deportation -- guards against a subsequent re-entry. But, I guess, realpolitik only goes so far....

Although non-citizens are not guaranteed all the rights citizens are, isn't this discrimination based on their political choices? In other words, wouldn't this violate their freedom of speech if they were citizens?

No. It’s not a free speech issue.

More great news, as the Trump administration is immediately pulling $400m (£310m) of federal funding from Columbia University, saying it failed to fight antisemitism on campus.

A statement by four federal agencies said the funding cut was due to "continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students”

This University has become a bedrock of terrorist support, with hundreds of cowardly student protesters hiding behind their masks while displaying their latest designer Keffiyehs; the inaction from the University is no surprise however, populated as it is by left wing nut-jobs indoctrinating students with their woke ideologies.

It’ll wind up in court.

NO!  Ok.  Read and learn about our rules in America...generous country, but do not piss us off.

Not so fast sunshine....if you are not a citizen, you better behave.  Not all laws apply to non-citizens...ok!

Oh that imaginary court of yours again, when you have nothing keep referring to a court, like that helps your cause

You do understand the difference between the Constitution and Laws?

I think most who attended Civics class do.

I think it's reasonable, if they stick to 'supporters of Hamas' as they are a proscribed group.

However, if they start chucking out all those who disagree with Israeli policies in the region, that goes too far. Criticizing a foreign country shouldn't be punishable in the USA - or anywhere else for that matter!

That’s why the left largely quit teaching civics in the US.

Exactly.

There is no place in America for these visiting trash people with a visa to study.  I'm guessing they forgot to mention on their visa application that they would be protesting for a terrorist organization (which in my opinion is a form of lying).   Freedom of speech is one thing but promoting terrorism is another.  The (born) American citizens that are participating in this disgraceful activity should be aware that their actions are recorded, and they have been identified (and listed in a data base).  When corporations do a background checks for hiring, guess what?  Actions have consequences.

Agree, but also for those white KKK clowns and the like

Well, unless the US imports one of the woke, seat-sniffing judges that make up most of the British judiciary, it should prove to be a legal victory as well as an unquestionable moral victory.

Columbia have clearly not followed federal anti-discrimination laws, and have abandoned its legal and moral obligation to protect Jewish students; you might not care about that, but myself and many others do, so this is an excellent move by the Trump administration, and is something that the cowardly Biden administration should have done long ago.

The Constitution only withholds two rights from non citizens, the right to vote and the right to hold Federal Government Office, all other rights under the constitution are held by all person within the U.S. and its jurisdiction.

There are historical examples of these rights being withheld from certain groups, usually on the basis of race. Those being some of the most shameful episodes in the abuse of Government power

So yes, foreign students do have the rights of freedom of speech and freedom of association under the Constitution, but also infringement of constitutional rights is and always has been part of the abuse of Government power.

Court cases will undoubtedly follow.

the american constitution need to be amended . otherwise down the line Americans are going to be getting screwed ..

"Us" includes me. I've been a US citizen (not "America") for 79 years. We have been generous from time to time, but now, under Trump, we think only of ourselves and will not help anyone else unless we're compensated financially or politically to do so.

37 000 000 000 000 U.S $

That debt needs to be serviced and reduced , it cannot keep getting bigger

I suspect if a person is in country on a student visa and they engage in protests that promote terrorist groups and violence or threats to other groups that is reasonable grounds to terminate their visa and expel them.  Not sure of any nation on earth where this wouldn't be grounds for expulsion.

All that ends when your visa is revoked. I think they give you a week to leave. Something like that you aren't deported instantly. You do not have to commit a crime to have your visa revoked. You were a guest you talked nonsense and the host says go away.

You also have the right to appeal your revocation. If it is like other countries that would be on the spot and you would be kept in a hotel at you own expense with no phone to the outside or internet.
