US trend to autocracy

Firstly Trump fired any Justice Department prosecutors who participated in investigations against him. Removed security clearances of intelligence people  who have criticised him.

Signed an Executive Order removing security clearances and banning from federal buildings any lawyer who assisted in impeachment investigations against him

Signed an Executive Order requiring any plaintiff wishing to challenge the legality of Trump's actions in Court to provide, up front, a bond covering the totality of Government legal costs, to be forfeited if the case fails. The above are clearly designed to oppress any opposition using the Courts to restrain him. It should ne noted Putin used similar techniques to gradually suppress opposition in Russia.

Does this trend not cause concern for the American voting public, let alone handing all the "cards" to Russia in their war against Ukraine, tariffs for tax collect and so on?

Trump has learnt by his first election as POTUS. He has recognised a lot of of loopholes in American "democracy". And he is abusing them at his best.

Some time ago I mentioned it aleady and repeat it now: the USA is NOT  a democracy. Why? The POTUS has the power to influence the juristic system, the 3rd power in a real democracy. This missing rule allowed him to choose very right-wing people people as member/s in the highest Court, the Suprme Court of the USA. What a shame, they should be neutral with some common sense. Nearly every time the 6 REP-oriented judges sing the song of the new US-autocrat - as a thank your for their election!!!

He has the "juristic" power to eliminate people in the 2nd power of the state, the adminmstration. And he is not hindered to replace "unloved" (but excellent) experts in  the administration and replace them by footlickers. What a shame.

He is able to stop and abuse international agreements and contracts. Look at Ukraine and Gaza, without the agreement of the the House Of Representatives.

Very important and disappointing for me:

in the USA it is no problem to select a condemned criminal as POTUS. What a serious joke!

..... and the list goes on and on!

Trump is the best leader since 1959. Great to see a real man step up.

Well aint payback a bitch..he endured lies , smear tactics, lawfare , assassination  attempts  and everything the opposition could throw at him but made a "miraculous" come back !

The American people voted for him,  he has the mandate to do what he said he would do  and  so far  he seems to  (mostly) be doing exactly that.

He is certainly shaking up the "International Rules Based Order"

and knows what a woman is  ( I think 😋)

You should look like autocracy before you use in a sentence.  Anyway congress holds all the power if they ever choose to exercise it.

Condemned? That is so stupid it's actually funny.

You should learn how to look up the meaning of big words before you use them.

Well he certainly knows what one costs - $130,000 and 32 felony convictions!

He's just following tradition.

I said, “Nah, I’m not going to—or, we’re not going to give you the billion dollars.” They said, “You have no authority. You’re not the president.” The president said—I said, “Call him.” I said, “I’m telling you, you’re not getting the billion dollars.” I said, “You’re not getting the billion. I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours.” I looked at them and said, “I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.” Well, son of a bitch. He got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.

So is he reforming the whole process of appointments of prosecutors in the US, removing the power to appoint or remove prosecutors from the power of the Executive? If he is doing that, more power to him. But I suspect he is not, merely appointing people based on ideological loyalty, continuing a cycle.

No concern at all. This is exactly why I voted for President Trump. He’s cutting out the cancer that is in the US govt.

He won by 1.5% of the votes, a very slim margin to completely change the political culture of the US. My gut feeling is the US population will deeply regret voting into power an authoritarian who will overthrow the Rule of Law by appointing even more sycophants and destroy US influence overseas with democratic countries. Likely the eventual outcome will be economic depression in the US. e.g. I recall last time trump was in power the US tax payer had to subsidise some industries by tens of billions of dollars whilst at the same time the trade gap increased in favour of PRC i.e. failure of policy.

Typical MAGA reverse logic. It's trump who is weaponising the Justice Department. and FBI.

I don't know if you've noticed, but most western democracies are ruled by leaders that only attracted around 30% of the votes cast.

And Biden only won because of 15 million 'one time only voters'.

That never voted before or after.

Yep. Most would have to via coalition process, so some balance. Not so with the current US government owning both Houses. Plus of course the ongoing very active process by trump and Co to destroy US institutions who should provide support and enablement of Rule of Law with sycophants e.g. Justice and FBI.

trump and Co are a very virulent form of cancer which is likely to metastasis and destroy many US institutions.

Yes, Austria is even more interesting as the winning party play no part in ruling their country as the losers all banded together to oust them from power. France and Germany much the same, UK too.

Let's face it democracy is broken and the winners are people nobody really wanted to be in charge.
